I’m eligible for and am about to request to pay retroactive Class 2 NICs for as long as permitted to increase my credit for UK pension. Would appreciate input from anyone who has done this on these questions:-

1. Has anyone tried or been able to get retroactive credit for more than 6 years Class 2? If so how and on what basis?

2. I have been employed throughout the retroactive period. Was proof of employment/employer needed to be submitted or was the Canadian employer contacted for verification by phone/mail?

Since you're the one making the top-up contributions, it doesn't have anything to do with your Canadian employment status. Not sure on the maximum back period, but it does seem unlikely there would be an exemption.

AFAIK, you can only pay for the previous 6 years, no longer than that.
