Default Retirement...when do you see it happening???

Nearly one in five Canadian workers say they’ll never be able to fully retire compared to workers in a sample of 15 industrialized nations, Canadians are among the worst off
Seventeen per cent of Canadian workers expect they’ll always have to work. This compares to the global figure of 12 per cent, according to The Future of Retirement: Life after Work, a large HSBC survey of people in Canada, Australia, France, Hong Kong, India and Mexico, among other countries. Canada rated just above the U.K. (19 per cent) and the U.S. (18 per cent). Meanwhile in Vancouver, the YWCA is getting 40 applicants for every 12 spots in a new program designed for men and women over 55 who want to get back into the workforce. The average age of participants is, shockingly, 62.

“We’ve had people that haven’t been able to pay their rent or are living at a relative’s or a friend’s couch,” YWCA career adviser Lynda McFee said. “There’s such a need out there with mature workers.”
Personally....I plan to retire from my current job, when I reach the official age to retire from it, and my contract runs just to that point. Additionally, I am not one to sit around and do nowt, so I'll keep myself busy in one capacity or another, even if it's just doing volunteer work.

70% of my annual salary as pension when the time comes, isn't that bad if you cut your coat accordingly. Furthermore, I am still undecided as to where I will like to retire at.

lol, my wife had twins when i was 51, retirement is now far fading away into the future.

I think I'll retire to a box.

I always planned to retire at 55 and I did. I often wonder how I ever found time to go to work with all the other stuff going on ! Even now I am never stuck for something to do and I don't even play golf.

Had planned to go early 50s and bugger off to Spain, sooner if job turned to shite.

Job turned to shite (for reasons partly referred to in previous posts) and by amazing good fortune, found a better way of going earlier.

And to a different country.

6 years from formal employment, but am now part time and in a non management job now so life is simpler on the brain but harder on the body. I had thought I would be able to retire next year but pensions and all that.

I'll carry on doing arty stuff forever though.
