Remembrance Cake
I was thinking it was about time for the annual BE 'debate' about poppy wearing and remembrance services, but I just did a search and I can't find a thread for 2012.
Anyway, in Sobeys today, they had a cake with 'Lest we forget' piped on it. Never seen that before. |
Re: Remembrance Cake
Thats an odd one:confused:
I wear my poppy with pride, when I remember it;) |
Re: Remembrance Cake
Have become ambivalent on wearing the poppy, but no such ambivalence on having a slice of cake !

I like the fact that the '11th' is a National Holiday here and that so many people do wear poppies, although like Piff Poff I have bunches of them in the house....but seldom on my coat! I will go to the Cenotaph here this year as our son is doing the Air Cadet thing...another first for me. |

Re: Remembrance Cake
I lost my poppy and bought a replacement this morning. Every year I lose several. I should remember that before paying for the first one with folding money.

Re: Remembrance Cake
Growing up in France, to me, November 11th will always be a day to remember those who fought for our freedom during the 1st world war.
May 8th for the 2nd. Over 20 years later and I still struggle to adjust to it being a day to remember those who gave their lives in all wars... I like it though, it's important we never forget... |

One mans opinion in The Guardian doesn't make it an informed opinion, that makes it his opinion. A bit like your ambivalent opinion about wearing a poppy to remember the service men and women who have died in the service of their respective countries whether they agreed with the rights and the wrongs of the orders issued by whoever was in charge at the time,
LEST WE FORGET. |
Re: Remembrance Cake
One of the key reasons for pledging to "not forget" the horrors of the past is so you don't make the same mistakes again. I don't think we've done a very good job of even trying at that, to be honest.
So it all comes across as a bit of a hollow glorification really. |
