tempted, very tempted, the appeal of this site has worn of late though.

I hope you have some success rae. Have an attitude that you do want things resolved though. Offer them a resolution that you think is fair and achievable given the circumstances and inconvenience you've experienced, and take it from there.

I was told on numerous occasions by Subaru's customer service hotline that the policy was to repair, and not replace vehicles. Having not had access to the car for more than a handful of days over several months, I kept pushing for replacement, until I learned that the policy was flexible, and each case was determined on merit. It took over a dozen calls, hours on hold, much frustration, and several weeks to get to that point. I can understand your pain, but don't let them grind you down. There'll be a resolution at some point, so make sure it's something you're happy with, rather than washing your hands of it and ending up out of pocket.

Best of luck.

thank you for wishing me luck, but any resolution would involve another LR or dealing with the people in edmonton again, frankly i'd rather just write it all off to experience and put it behind me, once i have ranted of course.

But at least with the Toyota you'd know what was wrong with it. ;)

try having a look at a RR forum called fullfatrr.com there could be someone on there that has had similar problems with their car, I know owning a Land Rover can be a love/hate thing at times, I hope you can get it sorted out :fingerscrossed:

I feel your pain Rae. My son works at a dealership (not Land Rover) but is Dodge any better? Anyway he often complains that the service advisors are hellbent on up selling service add ons like Brake fluid flushes, rad flushes, basically anything that will bump the price of the oil change. Trouble is when a real problem is found the poor customer is then faced with even more costs.
He recently reported a severely worn steering rack assembly to his advisor and said that it was desperately in need of replacement. Trouble is the advisor had already up sold about $200 extra in other stuff that wasn't needed so didn't want to upset the customer by quoting the rack too.
Yes you guessed it the vehicle went back out with clean oil, clean filter and a free fluffy air freshener and a knackered steering rack:o

nice. i think i should add that this letter i posted on here went out to all the media locally and auto journals, thats why its an open letter, not for on here, though i'm sure all these important people read ex-pats it may just be missed i suppose.

i've had a couple of responses, typically nothing from the dealer or their head office. this is why the brits typically don't complain, no bloody point.

Surf the 1000's of vehicle related forums and I bet you could find similar posts and sentiment about every single manufacturer, and most dealerships too. Some are isolated incidents, some are indicative of underlying trends and problems.

FWIW, I had terrible problems with a new Subaru 18mths or so ago (replaced engine, turbo, 3x stereo, repainted, engine warning light issues etc). Subaru North America were a PITA to deal with, the local dealer was pretty supportive, but the whole experience left a pretty bitter taste - certainly not the near 100% satisfaction the consumer reports might like you to believe.

I purchased a new Mercedes a couple of weeks ago, and it's already needed a new auxiliary battery - shit happens, and unless there's a wealth of similar evidence such as that which you posted about LR and Go Auto, I don't think a poorly composed rant is an opinion I'd consider to be much use in isolation.

quick update for anyone who may be interested. basically RICH was right and i got nowhere, so much for poorly composed rants. LR US basically washed their hands of me and refered me back to the dealership, no other media outlet took interest.
on the plus side since my letter the car has had two further faults, both these added up to well over a grand, fixed for nothing, and all of a sudden i was provided with an LR2 as a courtesy vehicle where previously i got nowt.
anyway rid of the bloody thing in two weeks, new VW tiguan fully loaded, sorry IAIN could not reconcile myself with some of the interior quality of the scoobie i personally felt was a bit lacking.

Doesn't look like a bad little motor, how many notes for this baby or did you lease it?

bought it 41k with the packs i added, 6% off list was all i could manage, but i got 6k more on a trade for my rover than mitsubishi and mazda were offering, in part i think because the VW dealership is the same chain as LR so could off load it easier. had the rover up for private sale for 3 weeks, got one email from some chancer wanting to swop it for a 1997 bmw 540 with 20k cash, so had to trade before something else went, any funnily enough just been to get something out of the boot and the electronic lock will not close. brilliant.

looked into it extensively as the car geek i am, deemed the small suv gti, nicest interior, golf gti engine, capable for little soft roading, 4 wheel drive from VAG 50/50 split when needed. smallest, not much room in the back, and worst ground clearance of the competition, also most expensive, but you gets what you pay for. unless its a range rover.

Thats all true, but at the end of the day, it's still a girls motor, isn't it?

No one to blame but yourself then:p;)

I must be a hick, I think the interior of my (er..her:o) "new" 07 is quite spiffy, quite Audi like , its a lovely motor, especially for what we paid.

you know after my last motor i will accept any label as long as it starts everyday and runs unhindered for at least 50k. there is something to be said for boring reliability.

not at all, personal choice. i did like the instrument display on the forester, nicer than the tiguan with the blackout gauges and sweep on starting, it was the centre console and navi put me off, very fiddly. the vw is all touch screen and very easy and even has 3 mths free sirius radio, i almost did not get out after 20mins of listening to steve wright in the afternoon.
