BC Hydro is going to cut power for 10 hours in 2 weeks, luckily mostly overnight. Hoping its not cold that night as it may get a chilly without heat. A little worried about the food in the fridge, I think the freezer might be okay for 10 hours as long as its not opened, but dunno if the fridge can sustain 40F or cooler for 10 hours.

Strange they would cut it off for that long - that's going to cause issues for a lot of people.

Casualty of the pandemic. Bakery in North Vancouver opened in 1997, being forced to close, seems business has dropped too much to cover the 7,000 per month rent, and the landlord wouldn't work with the bakery owner nor would the landlord apply for Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance.
14 employees will lose their jobs, and the bakerty will close its 2 other locations as well, as most of the baking is done out of the North Vancouver location.
The bakery has seen a 70% reduction in business this year.

Metro Vancouver has fired 3 employees who were working on the dam maintenance when the dam suddenly opened which ended with 2 people losing their life down stream.

That just doesn't seem right; how hard is it going to be for the landlord to rent the space out for $7000 right now? Sounds like a good opportunity for a bunch of yuppies to buy a bakery and form a dirt hippie co-op or something like that.

And then some wonder why there are so many big chains, well big chains are all who can afford the obscene rents these days and some locations even big chains are pulling out rather than pay high rent.
You gotta be pretty wealthy to even start a business these days.

On another note...remember I bought those baskets for the freezers at your suggestion? We still haven't used them.
But we have got better at knowing what's there.
Anyone want to buy some baskets?

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Today is the last day of 2020 that the sun shall set after 5pm here in Kelowna with a sunset of 5:35pm (Vancouver sunset is 5:51pm)
Wont see an 5pm or later sunset until end of January, the dark times have arrived.

Don't believe anything on that internet thing. ..wow...3:56..before 4 pm....not sure I could get used to that these days. As a kid in the UK, 'oop north' it set around 4 I think around Christmas time but the counter side to it was that it was still light at almost 10 pm in late june.

Comparison San Diego earliest sunset is 4:42pm, and they average 10 hours daylight on the shortest day. Which is only 2 hours more daylight vs Southern BC, but it honestly can make a difference, and well more sunny days also helps...lol
Southern Florida is about as good as it gets in the lower 48 states, earliest sunset is 5:39pm and 10 1/2 hours of daylight.
Best you can do in a US state is Hawaii, 5:42 sunset with just around 11 hours daylight on the shortest day.
Of course it could be worse Barrow, Alaska (now known as Utqiaġvik apparently) won't see the sun at all from November 18th at 1:20pm to 1:16pm on January 22.
