Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I am looking for a new doctor, but GP's are in short supply, did get an appointment at a community clinic GP for end of March so not much better there either. Hard to get continuity of care when doctors are hard to find and get appointments with, I just don't want to end up like someone we know, no GP had mild abdominal pain for months, went to several walk in clinics over a period of a year, always told nothing to worry about, fast forward a year, one day severe pain, went to ER stage 4 cancer, could have been caught earlier if he had proper continuity of care with a GP.
If I had money I would hop across the border so fast to see a doctor and just self pay, starting to get really frustrated.

My wife has the same doctor, doctor wanted a chest x-ray as my wife has been having breathing issues, x-ray has been back for a week, doctor never reviewed it, front desk obviously can't say one way or another, so my wife has to wait now til doctor returns, hopefully nothing serious.

Not sure this is terribly helpful, but my friend spent the whole day on the phone and finally got a GP. She is rather tenacious and she lives in Vancouver. It was a struggle but she got one.

My wife spent half the day calling around. Will try more offices Thursday as nothing worked out with Wed calls.

She could be tenacious as all get go here in Fredericton. We don’t have doctors. If you were born here, over thirty years ago, you have a possible chance, but otherwise, none. I’ve been here 7 years and am rather proud that I finally have a nurse practitioner . NB has just announced that it’s closing the emergency departments of a number of hospitals overnight due to lack of staff. Health treatment is pretty dire in my bit...any better in NS?

The report that said 70,000 also said some of those already had doctors, they just wanted to change. At worst that must mean at least 10 out of every 11 do have a doctor. That seems unlikely so there must be a lot of people not registered with Patient Connect, presumably having given up or unaware of that process.
When we moved here, the waiting time was just short of a year.
There's something odd about a system where people either don't have a doctor or if they do, they have to wait for an appointment but if you call a walk-in clinic you can get an appointment to see a doc the same day.

The figures used on those smaller hospitals make a certain sense...unless you're one of the night time patients that would be there. I think this government has taken a leaf out of the NS book though. I think NS closed some for weekends, not just nights.

There are likely GP's taking patients in Vancouver, the trick is finding them which is a time consuming task, and sometimes the ones taking patients are not exactly great doctors.
I had a really good doctor back in 2016 but he left the practice for a community health clinic. But he was a great doctor, originally from So. Africa excellent people skills and thorough, and didn't rush, he booked in longer blocks than typical GP's so less patients per hour but he spent more time with each patient and filled in the extra time with walk in patients.
My current GP books so many per hour she is rushed and always one foot out the door before you even say a word.

Always hate when I need to go to Home Depot, its located in a central area of the city, just in this pocket of not transit accessible from my house so always have to walk, all I need is some super glue gel, at least it's not raining today.
Walking- 26 minutes
Transit can get me a tad closer, reducing travel time to 22 minutes, literally gets me 3 blocks or so closer.
Driving is quickest 6 minutes of course.
There are a few of these zones around Vancouver where transit just doesn't work.

I like the transit system here, it works well and I often take it if the snow is very bad. At the present our snow plough operators are on strike and the main roads are terrifying. If the strike carries on I will not be driving to work, I'll be on the bus.

Transit here is good, there are just these pockets that are like transit no mans land where you think transit would exist. Very well might be a bus that serves the area and just not one that matches up with the buses that serve my area. Would be a good time to have a scooter again, I miss my little scooter made getting around Vancouver so easy.
