Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
Got any? Milk before tea or after?
I can't drink tea or coffee from a big mug. But then, what's big? It has to be a cup or a small mug. And it has to be white inside. I don't mind a coloured cup - preferably light or pale - but it has to be white inside. And if it is a mug - a small one mind - at least make it wider at the top than the bottom. https://www.yankodesign.com/images/d...28/drop_01.jpg |
Re: Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
Milk after for me every time...as the colour of the tea has to be just right.
Years ago my MIL said she disliked drinking tea from a mug or thick cup...and it rubbed off and me. I always drink tea from a medium size cup. |
Re: Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
Biggest mug I can find for both tea and coffee. Milk after for both.
Superstitions - when I spill salt I throw some over my shoulder. Can never remember which shoulder it's supposed to be, so I throw a bit over each. Which probably cancels the whole thing out, so I'm not superstitious at all. |
Re: Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
You are completely right about the white inside of the cup. I mostly use mugs, but china not pottery ones. Mugs are ranked in my house, and all the best ones are mine. The thinnest ones are the best, preferably with a straight edge, not curved outwards.

I really don't like shoes. Not a shoe person at all, to borrow from Reggie Perrin's son in law.
Daps, trainers, running shoes, deck shoe...whatever you want to call them. Just not shoe shoes. |

Re: Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
I have to have my wardrobes/closet organised in groups of clothes...then colours from dark to light. All hangers and clothes must be facing the same way. All coats must be fully buttoned before hanging. All handbags are in dust covers. Shoes are always put in drawers.
Hubby drives me mad as he throws things on a hanger and hangs them anywhere. **shudder** |
Re: Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
I need to have 2 alarms set on 2 different devices when I need to be up early.
I simply dont trust not having a back up. |

Re: Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
I struggle to pass a thrift store without at least a quick look inside. I love them and have had some really great finds. Perhaps not so much a quirk as a vice though!
I always make myself a thermos mug of green tea "for the road" I get stressed at leaving the house without one. I agree about the inside of cups and mugs being white. I also have a series of mugs for specific occasions and don't like them being mixed up. My husband made gravy in my first coffee of the morning mug - aaaaaarrrgh!!!!! :D |
Re: Quirks, fussiness & superstitions
I think the salt and the devil thing came from the time when salt was very expensive and so it was a sin to spill and waste any. Throwing it over your left shoulder would hit the devil in the eye with it and make him go away again. I think.

So what does salt do to the devil and why wait until you spill some?
Salt is in holy water so it scares the devil away. |
