Pretty much. She really isn't a fan of car rides, but we had to take her with us that weekend, but she wasn't exactly having fun, she was really good on the ferry though, loved looking out at the passing ocean...

Introducing the Light L16 Camera

If my new link is what Greenhill originally linked to then perhaps this video explains things better https://vimeo.com/141273968

Looks very interesting, I could be tempted.

The vimeo link explains it better. Interesting product, but very niche.

Yeah, that's the product. I think he said $1299 for equivalent of $6000 worth of DSLR and kit. Primary function is DSLR camera, but it's an Android tablet. Also works as a 4K video recorder. Automatically uploads images to the cloud when in WIFI range or tethered.

Not sure about niche, looks like it has the potential to be very disruptive.

I can't seem to find the video outside of Facebook (interview of the CEO), so here's the FB link: https://www.facebook.com/RobertScobl...5/?pnref=story

Really interesting concept. Niche yes, appealing to those who can afford to splash out around $2000 Canadian. If the price dropped it would sell amazingly. Slightly bigger than a cellphone but takes huge resolution images. It wouldn't convince me at the moment to ditch my DSLR. It would fill hard drives ridiculously quickly. I note that Foxconn who will be making it have a license to use the technology in newer generation cellphones. Now that is where this is realistically heading and where the money is. I love the idea. Cameras are progressing at an amazing rate

That sounds about right. Start with the full blown innovation, with all features and aim for the early adopters. Then progress on to a feature cut version, version 2 software, and a targeted market price to compete head on with the $500-$700 DSLR market place... then partial technology integration into smaller technologies like cell phones and tablets.

Hello you.

I wouldn't replace my DSLR either but I could be tempted to use one as my walk around camera. Although I would like it to be a bit wider than 35mm, 12-15mm would be ideal.

Side note, I managed to sell my old T4i plus EF-S 17-85 lens and accessories while on the island.

SLR

Wasn't that the name of the soft porn mag masquerading as a photography magazine that men could buy as it was more respectable than Men Only?

I agree -not much bigger than a cellphone but seemingly amazing photos- Sony's RX100 V4 seems to be the best compact camera otherwise- I have a Canon S110 but it is just ok- the cost of this Light 16 is just way too high. Great to hear that you have sold your old camera on though- I have kept my 7d as a spare body just in case I lose/ break the mk 2 version. I have to say I love the camera on my Samsung S6- if they bring the technology into phones then that would be amazing though sensor size is always an issue.

Bristol , I'm trying to think of the mag that you meant- sadly I drew a blank even on a Google search- maybe it was a posh niche nudie mag available to "connoisseurs of the female form"- posing as photographers in Bristol??!!

The problem is that fewer and fewer people are interested in high resolution images these days. We all take so many photographs that the inherent/marginal "value" of every great photo is fairly low.

I used to be well into the SLR and lenses thing back in the 80's, at that time a well exposed and sharp picture was something of note; these days it's absolutely commonplace - even on most high end phones. The software deals with tricky lighting situations, and without the constrain of expensive film, multiple shots can also guarantee quality in most situations.

In the Vimeo comments section, a user called WongWong (or similar) summed up the potential issues and the likely take up well. If you want to craft a photo then an SLR/DSLR, tripod, and lenses are what's needed to force good composition and creativity.

Our new cell phone takes better pictures then my camera does...lol... It's not a fancy camera but only 3 years old, but suppose that is how technology rolls.

I agree with your comments although even the best phone cameras are producing great photos though when you put them up on say a 5k screen they typically look blah- 5k is high end now but in a few years prices will drop- if you want as do most people I suppose great pics to show on your phone then that is attainable with current phones. If however you want to transfer those phone pics to a high res screen which some people will then potentially this idea is maybe a step in the right direction. I'm not sure how the tech of this camera can transfer to a cellphone - it has 16lenses ffs! Sensor size is crucial- medium format cameras produce amazing resolution photos- full frame DSLRs out- trump crop factor cameras which in turn are way better than compacts which usually are better than phone cameras due to tiny sensor size in phones. Whether computation can truly get round issues of noise et is I think questionable . I agree that the reviewer Wong Wong ( apologies if name wrong!) makes good points.
