Try a tourtierre. Nearest thing and just as addictive.

My daughter is missing pork pies too. Apparently the 'Brit food' shops in some of the bigger malls sell them (teeny weeny Melton Mowbrays) :)

Have you tried the Pie shop on Ness Ave? Think its call mr Pie. English Bakers Style. Know they do good Steak and Kidney.

Eh? Tourtiere is nothing like a pork pie  It's made from minced beef FFS. I agree with the addictive bit, tho, particularly when it's eaten with grandma's homemade ketchup.

Yep I actually tried there, but alas no cigar. They used to make them, even importing a machine from the UK, but the problem lies with the Gelatin. You see, the quintessential english pork pie uses a type of gelatin different from the Canadian, and its too expensive to import in large quantities. Plus canadian pork tends to be leaner and less fatty than english pork produce, so you miss out on that all important "cartliage, spinal column and any other waste product" taste.

Having said that, they do stunning Cornish Pasties.

The local Thrifty Foods supermarket here has them, but it's a long way from Manitoba. It says Melton Mowbray on them so I asked if they actually came from there :p . The very nice lady went off to check, but apparently (and unsurprisingly) they didn't.

Hmm where do you live?

I see a gap in the market. I feel a career as a pork pie importer coming on. Make billions!

I've driven the entire length of Ness 4 x a day for almost 2yrs now and I've never seen a pie shop. Where is it?

Or should I just visit the optician? :o

Did you try "Raging Brit" on Portage? I've never been in and won't go on account of the stupid name and stupid logo, but they might have them if you're desperate.

There's a butcher with a yellow and black sign on St Mary's that does haggis, next to the fire station where the road splits off with ?St Anne... if they chop up cow for Brits for that, it's possible they mangle pig for pies too?

Re: Pork Pies

Was in Mr D's tonight's

Not making Pork Pies this year as

1. Quality Pork not fatty enough any more - really fatty Pork not good taste
2. Gelatine no longer allowed to be imported
3. If is not going to be done right and taste right, not worth the time taken.

Suggested to try raging Brit, was surprised to hear about them starting up a bakery though
