Didn't realize that was an option, I just saw the big box where I assumed you put the name of the candidate, never knew you could just write the party name, learned something new.

I picked that up from a friend of a friend on FB. The only problem is if you put the party name and there's no candidate for that party in your area.

I gather this list will be updated:

It's almost like you need to know something about what you're doing. A sort of back door IQ test to qualify one as a voter.

Elections BC has issued 670,033 vote-by-mail packages this election season. It's an increase of more than 663,000 compared to the 2017 election when 6,517 people voted by mail.

Quite the increase in mail ballots, wonder if Elections BC was expecting that big of an increase? Pandemic and all, but that is a huge increase.

Election day in BC.

Although we may not know the results tonight due to the record mail in ballots cast this election. BC elections is hoping for an official result within about 2 weeks.

I heard on the 6 pm news that it was a relatively low turnout at the polls, in general, today.

I'm not that surprised after the huge turnout for the Advance polls and the mail-in ballots.

They saw a 7,200 percent increase in mail ballots this election compared to last election.

Looks like about 1.1 million ballots were cast by mail or advanced polling prior to election day.

CBC and other media are projecting a NDP majority, although final results wont be available for up to 2 weeks.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...2020-1.5776058

" John Horgan back to the legislature as the only consecutive two-term premier in his party's history. "

A couple ridings in Chilliwack surprisingly close.

Of course Kelowna area not being the most progressive left is going BC Liberal.

The races being so close in Abbotsford and Chilliwack is a bit surprising. CBC mentioning young people moving further east because they can afford housing playing a role, more and more Vancouver folks who can't afford housing are changing the demographics of these areas little by little.

Greens appear to have won their first seat in the lower mainland, West Vancouver-Sea to Sky.

No surprise really, often happens when a party loses an election.

BC Liberals leader Andrew Wilkinson will step down as leader when his replacement is found.

He's going before he was pushed, if I may be blunt!!

There were mutterings even before the election was called but certainly during the last few weeks that there were Liberals who were very upset with him. He did not handle well MLAs and later candidates who said things that are not acceptable these days, delayed far too long before making any comment about them or insisting they apologise, so came over as very weak in many areas, and let's face it, he sometimes behaved in a very supercilious way.

eg, I'm a doctor, so I am better able to deal with Bonnie Henry.

Yes, he has a medical degree, practised for all of 3 years in 3 separate small rural communities (1 year in each) before quitting and going to do a law degree ............. back in the 1980s.

eg, I've rented, and it can be quite fun.

Huh??? not if you don't have any money!

Yes he was about the worst choice for leader the party could have made.

Probably a good thing he didn't make it in medicine, I cannot see him having good bedside manners as a doctor.

........ and now he seems to have set the cat among the pigeons with the way he announced his resignation!

It seems to be expected that the leader should consult with his caucus as to whether he or she still has their support, then consult with the party executive so the executive can set up the rules for choosing a new leader.

Instead, he consulted with no-one, and seemed to imply that he would be involved in choosing the new leader!!!

For those confused about the BC LIberal Party, it is actually a coalition of conservatives and liberals, thus having to satisfy voters and MLAs ranging from extreme right wing to left of centre.

It arose in the late 1980s and early 1990s after the demise of the BC Social Credit Party, which had ruled BC for almost all 30 years between the 90s to the late 1980s. That was a wild and woolly period in B politics.

After the NDP won the 1991 election by rolling over the remains of that party, the result was the eventual formation of the BC Liberal Party ................. to prevent the "raging communists" (as the founder of the BC Socreds, W A C "Wacky" Bennett used to call the NDP) from taking over.

Honestly!!

They finally succeeded in defeating the NDP in 2001, reducing that party to 2 members only, and then held office until 2017, although the size of their majorities declined with every election after 2001.

The BC NDP are even closer to centre than the Federal party, but they are connected, and workers for one often help with elections for the other. In fact, the BC NDP might be closer to the Federal Liberals!!

On the other hand, there is no connection between members of the BC Liberals and the Federal Liberal Party.

Exactly right. I get the impression BC NDP are held in the centre by the large group of loudmouthed conservatives in the province. It's a shame in a way as I wish they were more left leaning, we could probably solve a lot of the issues with mental health, public transit and childcare if there wasn't so much public resistance to tax and spend policies.

Interesting choice of Jennifer Whiteside to take over as Minister of Education instead of Rob Fleming.

The reporter on CBC pointed out that she was previously secretary-business manager and chief spokesperson of the Hospital Employees' Union. The reporter suggested that the experience of negotiating in that role would give her an edge in discussions with the Teacher's Union!
