Widening the tax base = Taxing the poorer portions of our society
No increase in income tax = massive increases in stealth taxes
Commissioning a report = not touching that political hot potato this term
I have absolute confidence in Minister xxxx = They're for the chop but I can't say that out loud
We promise to... = Do or say anything to get elected
Constructive criticism = Sticking in the knife in such a way that any attempt by the opposition to defend themselves makes them look bad
I'd like to make this point clear = I am now going to ramble on until you get bored and give up
Can I just answer the question = That you didn't actually ask
