OMG Devastated house sale fallen through
We should be signing just about now; but no.
Solicitors rings 11am, purchaser pulling out, not even got a reason to give us! So here we are, house in Canada now finished and the builder wants his money. This house empty, we sent to stuff in the contained last Tuesday; so not really in a saleable condition, at the very least we will have to buy a bed to stop it looking like a student doss house! Looks like Christmas has just been cancelled. Oh forgot, got no money either coz we bought a forward contract last week with all our cash, and guess what the $ is now up. :curse: And as of last night hubby and I are not talking, that was before this good news! Dont you just love the UK. :frown::confused::unsure: |
Re: OMG Devastated house sale fallen through
Oh my God - I'm so sorry to hear that. Hopefully the estate agents can do the decent thing and get you a new buyer asap. As you know we too are waiting to exchange - apparently they can never get hold of our buyer although us and the person buying her property are now ready to go and have been for 3 days.
I really do hope that things work out for you. Big hugs sent. Zoe M. x |

We are in exactly the same problem as you as from August. We had to remortgage the UK house and are still paying over 2,000 pounds a month to keep the Canadian property while we try selling the English crap. Only 2 days ago we dropped the price to a level which will now just about pay off the mortgage. We tried getting a time gap to buy the Canadian property but the pressure was such that our only way out was to borrow, it had to be from the UK because Canadian banks wouldn't lend it to us, no credit history you see. When you add the exchange rate to the mixture it makes everything worse of course. And yes, it does put pressure on the relationship. I hope you get over this problem quickly and get back on track. I only hope that anyone thinking about risking the same thing thinks twice. |
Re: OMG Devastated house sale fallen through
Aaarrghhhh. That sucks.
Why dont they change the law in England and make it like scottish or canadian law? Surely everyone is sick of this by now? Can you rent furniture short term to dress the house until you sell it...thats what those flippers on telly do? Good Luck, fingers crossed for a quick sale. |
Re: OMG Devastated house sale fallen through
We had the same thing happen to us the day before contracts were to be signed. Estate agent did find us another buyer straight away luckily (for him ;) )
It had already happened to us before so i guess in a way we were kind of expecting it but thought it was ok as it was the day before! Hope you get some good news soon  |
Re: OMG Devastated house sale fallen through
Really feel for you :( - I can only offer words of sympathy and encouragement, and I do understand this house-selling stress. It really is awful. Best wishes, and give each other a hug so you can battle on as a united front - please :)

They are identical it's just that there is a shorter timeframe to reach the legally binding stage in Canada in comparison to England. No consolation to the OP though. Here's hoping another buyer is found soon  |

Re: OMG Devastated house sale fallen through
Yes, Iaink is right. Why DON'T they do something about house selling laws in England. Its OK for people to bitch about the price of cheese in Canada, but at least here you are safe selling something that really matters -- your house!!!

When the market's on the wane the sellers want to change the rules It takes time for these types of things to get put into place By which time the market has changed and it’s the buyer's that want the rules changed Either way you can't make rules that will suit both parties The UK market suffers or benefits from a long period from offer to confirmation In a growing market it gives the seller the benefit of possibly having a second offer on a property that can be perceived as increasing in value In a declining market it gives the buyer the option of backing out on a property that is likely to lose value and either put in a lower offer or look at property that was originally out of his price range Either way it allows market forces to drive the price |
