Re: The Oil Spill
So here's an awkward thought.. does anybody here even feel remotely culpable for the environmental damage, given that we are 'over-consumers' in the most hydrocarbon-rapacious continent on Earth?

Re: The Oil Spill
Absolutely, yes. In fact I spend time and effort trying to minimise my own 'carbon footprint' (if anything just to show my kid that I'm trying to do the 'right thing'). For example, last year's Earth Hour continued on for about a month here (as best we could, anyway).
On a related note, here's a movie I stumbled upon last night, I didn't get the chance to watch it all yet but there is some very interesting commentary along with spectacular footage all relating to our rapid consumption of natural resources. Rather than embed it, I've linked it as there are HD viewing options. 'Home' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1014762/

I feel indirectly responsible, yes. If I really cared about the environment I'd make an effort not to be so damaging to it, using less oil would be a better contribution than just smashing up the occasional windmill.

I'm wearing a cardy today and the thermostat is at 66. Mind you if I was in England the heating wouldn't be on at all and my motivation is my wallet not the environment.

Fred drifting.....I was pondering temperature and ability to cope with it whilst watching the live streaming talking heads on the BBC news election coverage. Everyone in London is wrapped up in coats & according to the Met Office it's a balmy 10C. This morning it was 2C in the bright fog here in Newfoundland and I got into the car in shirtsleeves. Perhaps I have become aclimatised?!

I said 'Bright fog'. Although it was a bright morning here, there was very little sunlight and no warmth making it through.;)

Re: The Oil Spill
As the oil continues to flow unabated despite the efforts of BP here's an interesting link to sort of put it in perspective.
It's actually quite stunning. Map centered on Toronto. http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/#loc=To...0630654604&z=8 Map Centered on Calgary. http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/#loc=Ro...9&y=51.001&z=7 Map centered on Vancouver. http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/#loc=Va...=49.248523&z=7 |
