Re: Off Topic Posts moved from Covid Quarantine thread: Grocery delivery
I'll update this after my first Voila order (hopefully) arrives later tonight. Ironically they were actually cheaper for some of the Asian stuff that I wanted than the Chinese supermarket that offers deliveries to me via GOcery. The Asian supermarkets seem to be cheaper for fruits and vegetables though and I think I'll be doing my fresh food shopping in Chinatown once my quarantine ends. I remember one Christmas when I was here, there was a supermarket in Chinatown selling pineapples for 50 cents.

odd, I used to live a couple blocks away from Eaton centre and they would be delivering there. I guess they’ve blocked off some postal codes for lack of parking, I guess they figured loss of business would be less than the stack of parking tickets their drivers would be driving around with.
who did you use in the end? I’ve been tempted by Voila but their $8 delivery fee just makes me go in store instead.

I've found Voila to be really good...

The delivery driver was really friendly and I received everything I ordered including some special deal items that were apparently limited stock. I'm not sure if I've ever received a large online grocery order in the UK where at least one item wasn't supplemented or missing.

Yep, that's what I did and I can report another positive experience with them. The guy called me to say he would be with me in 10 minutes and would I need to meet him at the front desk or would the concierge be happy for him to bring the delivery to my door. I advised the latter and that's exactly what they did.

Yeah I was really impressed and they had no qualms when it came to my foreign card. What I've ordered now should see me through the rest of quarantine though so I don't know how often I would need to use it again in the future.

At least you know it is good service if you need to use it again.

Thanks will give them a go, I see there’s $10 off a $100 spend so will get one in when my partner comes back after my quarantine. Silly really because Amex had given me a statement credit that I forgot to use.
I see they run a plastic bag deposit scheme but they’re currently not charging for plastic bags as they’re not taking back bags. I’m just thinking back to my days as a Tesco delivery driver, how much it would have sucked counting bags back in for deposit return...granted people were giving back all sorts of plastic bags..

Definitely. It will come in useful if I ever need to order a lot of heavy stuff or just don't feel like facing the winter weather tbh.
