Any reports on the shooter's motive yet?

It appears that Wortman had an issue with some of the people who he killed - https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/v...ooters-rampage

While he wouldn’t speculate on the shooter’s motive, Campbell noted “there seems to be a trail of individuals who had problems with Mr. Wortman.”

I'd love to know what type of weapon this would cover as, from what I can tell, they are already banned as a result of the 5 round magazine limit.

They are available with mags pinned to 5 round capacity, there is also the loophole that anything that is a pistol mag is allowed in 10 round, even if it fits and is used in a rifle. (buy an AR15 compatible pistol mag, if it is stamped for pistol use, you could go the range and shoot it in 10 round in an AR15) - the danger being that it would be all to easy to buy a 30 round mag from the US, or remove the pin from your mag using semi basic DIY skills.

It's basically the list of restricted semi auto military rifles, as well as the unrestricted military grade rifles - that are being hit, as well as removing the daft unrestricted rifles with over 10,000J muzzle energy (.50cal BMG, PRTD anti tank rifle etc)I don't believe the full list is out but have seen it has been confirmed it includes many of the AR15 alternatives (XCR, CX4 storm etc) and AK47 inspired rifles (Type 56, VZ58 etc).

The other thing will be any gun that is not on the list, but falls in that similar category will probably be added to the list quickly and with little to no resistance now.

Personally not convinced it'll help, as in this instance the guns were purchased illegally from what i can gather in the first place. However the Canadian gun laws have always seemed strange to me with the outlawing of specific models as opposed to calibres/styles (you weren't allowed an AK47 or a .22LR AK47 replica, but could buy a type 56 which is for all intents and purposes a newer improved version of the AK). Couldn't buy a a 1980s military surplus sniper rifle that had featured in a couple of 90's action movies, but could go and buy a semi auto sniper rifle from 2012 that was accurate out to a mile or more in a higher, more deadly calibre.

The police investigation has revealed he knew many more people he shot and killed, its not just about the girl friend.

At first it seemed he attacked his X then went on a random spree. Now it looks like a major revenge and kill attack on people he had a grudge against in a wide range of places in Nova Scotia.

Good on Trudeau for limiting the sale of assault weapons in Canada.

Hi
Well to me it is just a political move by trudeau and his party

sadly at the expense of those killed

It will do very little to prevent something like that happening again

thou i must admitt i personally dont know what would

but the efforts of trudeau were a missed chance of really doing something to prevent illegal weapons getting into canada

cheers
J

Hi

interesting news released from rcmp

only one of the guns used could be traced back to a source in canada

so maybe more cbsa searches are needed

to try stop shootings with imported illegal guns

cheers J
