Nov 8 who is heading south?

So the US Land Border will be reopening to travellers on 8 November. Around 80% of people living in Canada live within a 2 hour drive of the border. Now of course nobody is saying at the moment if returning Canadians who drive down after this date will require a PCR test. Will the US accept mixed vaccines?

I just checked locally for the cost of a PCR test and it is $250. I am not that desperate to visit a mall for the day or a weekend.

Not until Canada drops the testing requirement for return, or change the testing to include the cheaper options as the return to Canada is expensive with the testing requirements, the US isn't requiring tests to cross via land only be fully vaccinated if travel is non-essential, essential travellers have until January to be fully vaccinated, testing is is still required for entry by land.

As for mixed dosing, apparently the FDA is meeting today to discuss that, so we should hopefully know in the coming weeks if the US will accepted mixed doses as fully vaccinated.

Now if Canada would do away with the testing requirements for the land border or at least an exemption of some sort for day or short trips because seems to be no point in day trips with the testing requirement in place coming back to Canada.

So if you were going to go to the US for a day trip, does CBSA accept a PCR travel test done in Canada 2 days prior to the day trip to the US?

See how silly not having some exemption for short trips is.

Yes.

For short trips that are less than 72 hours, Canadian citizens, people registered under the Indian Act, permanent residents and protected persons travelling to the United States are allowed to do their pre-entry molecular test before they leave Canada.

You can get a free NAAT test at Walgreens in the US as well that qualifies for re-entry to Canada.

Apologies Jsmth, I didn’t pay close enough attention to who had posted.

If you need to get tested, Shoppers do one for $40 (Alberta and Ontario) much cheaper than most other providers of this service

Thanks. I had looked but somehow missed it on the site, even with your link it took me a couple minutes to spot it, or it was recently changed, but its a cluttered site, so my brain probably missed it when I looked it.

Thanks! I didn't see this before.

In the interest of clarity for others seeing this post, this antigen test will get you entry into the US but not re-entry into Canada since it is not a molecular test.

Perhaps pan down the page on Shoppers - where they have International 'Outbound and Inbound' tests as well. :p However, those cost $150.

The COVID-19 swab test is a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT), which tells you if you have COVID-19 at the time of the test. The test uses a sample collected from a person’s nose, using a non-invasive swab that goes approximately 1cm into the nostril. The test will not tell you if you had COVID-19 in the past. This test has been approved by Health Canada.

Exactly...you were referring to the $40 one in your OP, so that one does not work for re-entering Canada. You'd need the $150 one.
