Default Not porridge

I normally just have a bowl of cereal and a cup of tea for breakfast, but it's getting cold outside now so I decided to have porridge instead. I went up to the hot food counter in the camp mess hall and took a bowl.

Bleeeuuurrrrghhh!!!! It was creamed wheat, not oats. It was like eating sawdust in Magic Marvin glue. Absolutely revolting. How can anyone eat that vom?

I had the same experience at HID mother's house. She kept on banging on how as she was married to a Scot, she makes this lovely porridge but it turned out to be rancid cat vomit from a box. She got quite the hump when I wouldn't eat it. I blame Kraft and it's cohorts enculturating various ethnicities into how to be model north Americans.

It's better with Honey & Mustard dressing.

You could be right, if the proportions were creamed wheat 0%, Honey & Mustard dressing 100%.

Porridge this morning. Some sort of cinnamon variety out of sachet. Milk and microwave, but very nice.

Why does Canada try to lurk cinnamon into everything? I hate the stuff, but they stick it into all forms of buns, and drinks...and porridge! Yuck!

Porridge is a good 'proper' food that shouldn't be mucked about with.

TBF my porridge was Quakers Oats So Simple from Sainsburys. There are so many flavours these days, I'm just a bit partial to cinnamon, the wonder spice!

I used to say exactly the same thing Millie. Cinnemon and Vanilla.

Six years on, I'm a bit partial to both now...in certain things.

Noo! I use them in cooking but real vanilla and real cinnamon, not chemical versions, and cinnamon not as the predominant flavour.

I lived in the south for a while and I didn't mind a bit of grits with my breakfast. But the best were the biscuits (scones) with sausage meat gravy, that was the bollocks.

On investigation, I suspect it was grits. Never again, it's disgusting.

The lack of flavour might explain why so many of my colleagues wash them down with deep-fried bacon, maple syrup and full-fat Coke.
