NHL

Sod it. I ended up a hockey fan at my last canadian trip. You'd expect I'd get to see some NHL hockey on TV back in the frozen country of Sweden, considering half the NHL players are from here. Not a single channel of all that we have here show the NHL games.

And only halfway through the first period of Ottawa v Pittsburgh (which I followed on line on a sports page READING the commentary) did I realize that it was going on in - wait for it - STOCKHOLM!

I would have loved to stand there and sing the anthem with the rest of the canuck hockey fans.

YYZlover - highly depressed

I must admit after living in Canada for so long I do miss the hockey too:thumbdown:
Actually I was in Prague a few weeks ago and there where posters everywhere for a game between The Lightning and The Rangers.

I walked by a trailer today where they were giving away Leafs stuff. I had some shirts and hats and whatnot thrust into my hands.

Too late love, thrown to the eager locals in the office. Out where we live a local boy played for the Red Wings last season, one dare not walk around in the colours of any other team.

Salming. He was the Leaf's heroic Swede. I used to see him around here, skate track right up his face. He looked like a committed ice hockey player.

Good choice but for the best of the Swedes I'd go back a long time to Hakan Loob.

Not much, when you think about it.
"At that time, a lot of people still had Swedes stereotyped as soft,'' says Patterson. "Loober broke that mould. He was tough. He did go into the corners. He wouldn't take any crap.''

I know. What I'm saying is that he should make a decision to which team (LEAFS!!!!) or if he's going to retire.

Now I need to bring in the horses.

Salming is of god like fame here. Launched his own underwear brand and used himself as a model and all the women swooned. Yup, I would have.

What a body.

That year, the year Calgary won, 1989, was the last time I watched the play offs seriously. We were in a pub on Kingston Rd after playing softball and I thought "this is stupid, who cares about ice hockey in May?". Last year I didn't know who had won until I pulled in for gas and the Stanley Cup was standing in the gas station.

I believe Wendy Clark did something similar on this block.

Now it runs into June.

I like hockey (preferably not NHL), but June is ridiculous.

Dont be depressed love. You may not be able to watch the NHL games, BUT the mens/womens world hockey championships are played once a year. Sweden has a terrific team and jim and I were fortunate to watch canada/sweden game in stockholm last may; and watch canada/CR game in prague two years ago. We went to a sports bar and the people were fabulous - in stockholm, although sweden didnt play as well as they might have, everyone was singing and drinking and having a great time. The people in sweden are wonderful and starting cheering for canada when they realized that they werent going to win the game.

Im not sure of the schedule for 2009 - but seriously its worth watching.....especially the womens games...
