New Year update
Hello my friends,
Just realised I had not posted in for ages!! Well, I had the mastectomy Dec 12th, and it has been a bit of a painful experience as she had to go into the chest musculature a bit to be sure of clear healthy margins. The results a week later were excellent! No evidence of disease! Thanks to your wonderful generous gift I felt able to afford a new "do" for my son's wedding on the 29th, and Alan was able to buy a new suit which he needed badly both for work and to look presentable for the wedding! Anyway, we all looked "the bees knees"!! I told the hairdresser it didn't matter what she did to my hair as its all going to fall out in a few weeks in any event! I was able to tolerate a bra for a few hours, so managed to wear my new dress I had bought just before my diagnosis :) I met my oncologist for the first time yesterday, and I think we shall get along just fine. As I have the dreaded "triple negative" cancer I am to have 4x3-week cycles of one combo, (AC, for those who know about these things) followed by 12 weekly doses of Taxol, so my chemo will last 6 months, followed by 5 weeks of rads. I don't know why I am telling you all this, but someone might be interested!? I was worried that I should be trying to work as able throughout this, but I have been firmly signed off for "at least 8 months" from now, which is both a relief, and a concern. Anyway it means for sure I shall be on short term disability for the duration. She was keen to get going, so I start treatment next Wednesday! Well, I guess that's it for now ..... Just remains to wish you all a very happy and HEALTHY 2013!! |

Re: New Year update
Thanks for the update, you know not everyone loses their hair? - a friend of mine has marvelous big hair and when she had treatments after colon cancer surgery we were all worried about her hair, (stupid I know) but she kept it all! My sister on the other hand lost hers and when she bought the 2 wigs the health plan paid for..... she came out of the bedroom wearing one and her golden retriever barked his head off, terrified, so she put it back on the styrofoam stand and never wore it again. Thanks again for the update, we're all behind you.

A friend of mine has just returned to work recently after a lot of months off. He was going bald before being diagnosed. With the treatment he did lose his hair for a short time only however its now grown back and its thicker than it ever was and the bald patches fully grown!! His wife is jolly pleased. All the best for the coming months and hope you manage to have a positive and healthier 2013 :fingerscrossed: |

Re: New Year update
Thanks for the update - all the best for the treatment.
There is a therapy they use in Britain on some patients that you might want to ask about it. (A friend of mine had it) and I think it's called Cold Cap. They basically put a very cold cap on your head and it sometimes stops hair falling out. Not sure if they do it over here but if you're interested you could always ask. :) |
