We don't have to buy one either. We have a big one a few yards from the deck. You can see the lower two-thirds of it in this pic just to the left of the house

The guy I pay to shunt the snow/snowbank right up my driveway came to do his magic today. After he'd done he backed up the street a bit having seen someone across the street struggling to dig through the snowbank on their drive.

His blade lowered, he then pushed that ridge off to the side and drove off. Nice.

We had this tree to the side of the house in Riverview. I loved it when it was covered in snow - very Christmas card like

Beautiful.

We had a tree in our garden in New Jersey just like that. When it snowed the lower branches hit the ground. Sadly Hurricane Sandy brought the 120ft tree down.

Today started off cloudy and murky. By lunchtime the cloudless sky was bright blue and it was warm for this time of year. We went for a walk...I wore a 3/4 length leather jacket...instead of my usual long down coat. If only all days in winter were the same as today.

Freezing fog for the last week created a huge amount of hoar frost, which looks beautiful on the trees, but brought down a lot of power lines at about 9 o'clock this morning. They've restored some areas and lost some new ones and it's down to around 12 degrees in the house. The good thing is it isn't -40 outside. The map shows the area roughly; parts of Regina never lost power and the map on Sask Power's blog site is showing the progress.
power back on after 9 hrs and change!

Had freezing fog in parts of the US midwest on Saturday, my last flight of the day went out 2.5 hours late because of it.

Vancouver is sunny this week, supposed to be a few degrees below 0 tonight and into the week until the clouds and rain come back and things warm up.

December 5th and still no snow where I live. I would be very happy with a brown Christmas.

The local Vancouver mountains are suffering, last year the ski slopes were already open, today barely any snow on them. They had a nice dusting last week, but not so much today, can still see the grass on the ski slope of whatever mountain it is we can see from the apartment on the north shore, doesn't look like its even cold enough for man made snow.

Keep hearing its an El Nino this year, so no real surprise if we have a warmer less snowy winter, California is getting hit harder though, but they need El Nino years to bring in water.

“Why do we go on?” a woman I know slightly asked last evening. It’s a common theme in this desolate place.

There was fresh snow overnight and flurries this morning. We drove to work, passing a pick up that had gone into the ditch. It had stopped with a tree embedded in the front centre. “Easy pickings” I thought, the driver wouldn’t have been able to run away “leave road not in safety, probably a charge of no insurance too”.

The windowless room is cold today. One never knows with office buildings, the technology to give them consistent warmth doesn’t yet exist so it’s usual for people to keep jumpers and coats to wear at their desk. Ms. Winter Lover complains that the mitts that match her hat are too thick to type in so she has to wear gloves and the gloves ruin the look. She had the same complaint in the summer when the frigidity was due to unregulated air conditioning.

I’ve just been outside, on an errand invented in order to see daylight, otherwise winter daylight is a weekend thing. In the lift there was a woman I didn’t know. “What’s the point?” she said unprompted.

Car crashes, darkness, angst in lieu of greetings. Just five more months to go.
