I absolutely agree Magnum. And Magnum junior, or is he Minimagnum?

Always thought the original series a la Clarkson and Co was utter pants, so new series at least has plenty of scope for improving... But probably won't. Move on, nothing (never has been) to see here, consign to "Tossers R Us" drawer.....

Most reviews I read weren't too harsh.

I'm sure it will improve with time.

The old Top Gear got tired a while ago. I didn't mind Hammond or May but Clarkson is a pompous ****wit!

So I shall just sit here on my own in the corner and disagree, then.

I watched the new TG yesterday evening. It's not quite got the fluency of the old one yet, but that's hardly surprising after one show in studio together. The daft challenge with the Reliants, Jeep and Land Rover were a lot less daft than some of the crap that went on in the Clarkson editions; at least Evans and LeBlanc can clearly both drive quickly. I like the concept of changing the star-in-a-reasonably-priced-car circuit to a rallycross thing, that promises to add a bit of comedy value through the season. And the Viper vs 'Vette shootout at Top Gun was well produced. All in, a pretty enjoyable hour's worth of iPlayer.

For all those so quick to dismiss it - what, exactly, was wrong with the episode?

I didn't watch and I've never seen it. Too car related?

I think it was the Evans effect that most folk I know did not like. I used to like him on Radio so maybe I should actually try and work out how to watch it.

Not surprised at all, one of my mates in the UK text me say it was lame and its not working. I called him Captain obvious.

The old top gear was all about Clarkson May and Hammond and how they all interacted together - educated grown men acting like school kids.....thats what was funny, it was simple as that, lets face it, most of us guys never grow up, thats why we found it entertaining.

Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc. One's annoying cad and the other is a yank.

Ah, well if that's your baseline then you were pretty much bound to be disappointed. I've enjoyed a few of May's other engineering-y programs, but I find Hammond annoyingly condescending, Clarkson is a class-A git, and the pseudo-schoolboy prank humour had worn very thin several seasons ago. I am rather hoping for a bit less puerile silliness but still some fun and games with the new presenter line-up. The first episode wasn't perfect by any means, but there's no way it was as poor as some of the lopsided reviews have tried to make it seem.

At least Evans has dried out...Clarkson should have tried it and he wouldn't have been late for a cooked meal and maybe kept his job for a tad longer....
