A new start....a new best friend

After losing two of my best mates in the last 12 months or so, our 10 year old springer spaniel Jake ( lost and never found ) and our 6 month old german shepherd Kaiser ( illness ) we are ready for another family member.

I am going to see a german shepherd pup on Saturday and hopefully everything checks out and the plan is to collect him one week into the new year, after we return from our UK visit.

We are putting up a 'coral' outside the rear garage door this week to try and reduce the possibility of wandering ( and control the poop area too ) in preparation.

I am hoping that the pup checks out as I'm ready to get my 'shadow' back. I miss having a four legged friend around.

I will update with photos if it is a successful visit.

Exciting new chapter. Hope he's gorgeous!

That would make you race back from your trip!:D

Going back to the UK for Christmas then?

Exciting times. It's tough getting another dog after losing a beloved companion, but the right thing to do IMHO.

I'd be racing back anyway, even more so now.

I agree, one of the greatest lessons a pet teaches its owner in life, is that it ends.

Yes, that's the part I don't look forward to. It was even harder with Jake as we had, that horrible phrase, no closure.

First time in 6 years. It will be the first time in 10 years that I have seen my dad with him living in Spain ( he doesn't return to the UK unless wild horses drag him there ).

Now torn between a Springer which has become available and the original German Shepherd.

I think I will let fate decide after the visit on Saturday.

PS. Both wasn't an option my wife liked.

The thought did cross. I can slightly understand when I suggested two German Shepherds, but a GS and a Springer ?!?!?!

Anyway we shall see what happens on Saturday.
