Perhaps, but where did the tin come from in the first place? It's not something I bought. One could posit a theory involving two tins and a horrible moment of revelation upon opening the first.

Its a sound policy in my opinion. My contact with pie and peas was as the default meal dished out to student teams by opposing clubs when I was a younger and more athletic person. (Loooooooong ago!)


Even as a starving student I chose hunger over the green menace! But at least the beer had some nutrients, that's what probably kept me alive.

I have a jar of Marmite I bought solely in order to demonstate to the natives just how nasty the stuff is:o They dont believe you otherwise.

I do that with Cinquante, something I'm sorry to note is no longer available in the Yard, but mushy peas? There aren't enough drugs.

We went to Sea in McKenzie Town on Saturday for the first (and probably last) time for lunch. We were offered 3 types of mushy peas. Plain, with butter?? (Rick Stein) or with mint.
The fish was ok but as has probably been said before, they cant cook a chip. I am not going to blame it on crap potatoes because after many tries, yellow flesh potatoes are quite good for chips.

LOL. Perhaps it was left by the previous owner, and as any right minded person would do, you didnt want to touch it and are subconsciously (or consciously) blocking the memory?

Some Realtors really need to do a better job to protect their clients, there should be some sort of waiver against this kind of thing being left in a property!

The previous occupants were unhyphenated mule keepers, it's not obvious how they would have been exposed to toxic sludge in tins.

Nope, I think the tin was purchased with the intent of delivering it, "I took everything, I left him only with mushy peas" seems like the sort of thing someone might want to put in an autobiography.

Not if it was Tetleys... that stuff isn't good when it leaves the brewery!

I actually quite liked the pie and peas - there was a very good place down in the market that Mr Chookie and I used to frequent.

I went again for some chips from the British Chippy, 3 lots and 2 lots of gravy for $17 what a rip off and the chips were crap!!

I won't be trying them a 3rd time....:blink::blink:

My Wife and I and two other couples ate at the British Chippy in Bridlewood a couple weeks ago. From the time we ordered to when the food arrived at our table it was 29 minutes. My very first impressions were that the portion sizes were quite small for the price they were charging ($11.99 Cod & Chips). The fish batter was somewhat soggy instead of crispy, and having worked in the UK for 6 and a half years and having ate real British fish and chips, I would say the British Chippy in Bridlewood fails bigtime in matching the quality of authentic British Fish and Chip shops. All the us men at the table were still hungry after finishing our meals. 1 small piece of fish and a pile of soggy chips just didn't cut it for a hungry hard-working man. We debated ordering another piece of fish for each of us, but figured a) it wasn't worth the wait. and b) it wasn't worth the money. The bill came to over $75 for 6 of us and each one of us agreed that the price they were charging was hi-way robbery for such tiny tasteless, soggy portions. None of us will be going back again.

As a side note. Our 19 year old Daugher works at the Sobeys just down the lane from the Chip Shop and she told my Wife and I that her and a couple of co-workers ate there after work one evening and they too found the food to be extremely overpriced, with small portions and below average taste. They too said they wouldn't be eating there again. Apparently the place is getting very bad word of mouth from the majority of the locals who live in the area who have ate there and came away disappointed and feeling ripped off.

Good Luck Lisadd on your fish and chips at the new shop. Finding good fish and chips can get tricky. I think so anyways. One of the best I have had was in March down in Florida, and the owner of the cafe was from Scotland :)
The batter on the fish was light and not too greasy, the fries were home made, so good. He had to close shop though as the owner of the mall went bankrupt and all the business owners were given two weeks to move out. Imagine! Anyways, let us know how the fish and chips are at the new place.

Thanks for this. I for one won't be frequenting this establishment. Nobody likes to be ripped off.

Perhaps if they had a corrie celeb serving the chips?
