Myths you believed as a child...

Re: Myths you believed as a child...
When caught doing something naughty and questioning my mum as to how she knew, she told me she had eyes in the back of her head. I always checked it out, but never managed to see where they were.
We had regular silver paper drives at primary school, where the teachers would say, "We're collecting silver paper for the blind dogs". I remember spending a long time thinking how silver paper could possibly make a blind dog see any better. I'm still not entirely sure.

I can relate to this one. When I was 6 my uncle, who was 17, died very suddenly (within a few days) of cancer. My mother explained cancer to me as something that grows inside you. I was actually convinced for a couple of days after accidentally swallowing an apple pip that I was going to 'wake up dead' the next morning. I have never admitted to my parents why I refused to go to sleep. They thought I was afraid of going back to school after the summer holidays!

If you wipe your nose upwards you'll have a turned up nose.
If you play with your belly button all your works will drop out.
If you eat carrots you'll be able to see in the dark.
