My story
Hi all, just alittle bit about me and getting into canada, i live in cannock in staffordshire im 35 and my job is a panelbeater, back on march 4th 2008 i sent out an email to a autobody shop in edmonton to see if there were any jobs available for autobody technicians within aday they were interested in giving me a web cam interview the following week id had the interview and was been offered the job thru the LMO route by mid may id had the ok from alberta apprentice board and on thursday morning 16th october from gatwick i fly over to edmonton to start my new life, im single so im going on my own i have never been to canada never mind edmonton, ive found out all those goodbyes are horrible to deal with and the worst goodbye is yet to come with my mom&dad:( i havent got a clue what to expect with moving to edmonton but hopefully it will work out ok as long as i can watch some uk sport, can i thank everybody on british expats that has helped me out when ive had a few questions to ask and good luck to everybody planing on moving to canada if you can get lucky like i did with a job offer and positive LMO it could almost happen overnight, i have somewhere to live once there so i will be able to post an update, take care, james:)

Good luck mate. Watch out for those winters and take a big coat. I have friends in Edmonton and they love it there.

Hey James!
Good for you... how many people dream about it and never do it? That's huge. You're bound to miss your family and friends at first but Skype is great for keeping in touch ..make sure they're all "webcammed" up before you come away. Once you start meeting some people you'll be great ... and maybe a nice Canadian girlyfriend will just top it all off!? :D Good Luck! |

Hi linda im renting a room off somebody not got the address but its close to 75th street which is were im working my immigration guy sorted it all out it may only be sort term if we dont get on, during my 1st month month i can look for somewhere more long term if need be, i just asked him to get me somewhere close to work as i wont be driving to start with.

Hi monkey puzzle, ive always said i will work abroad and im lucky enough to do it, and hopefully ive picked the best country, everybody is webcamed up, and the part about a canadian girlfriend sounds good to me:thumbsup: cheers mate:thumbup:

yeah the goodbye's are bad, but you will get over it quick with cheap calls and webcam :thumbsup: We arrived in alberta 4weeks ago and wish we'd done it sooner with the kids, they love it and me and hubby are just settling, does help with how friendly people are as well Good luck and get that jacket..brrrrrrrrr Gill :wub: |

Thanks nikki lets hope there are many exciting times ahead:) marks work wear and walmart and good old canadian tyre are some of the places that have some good deals on jackets at the moment :thumbsup: Also zellers here are doing 40% off jackets, so check out the sales, there is some good ones, plus sears they have special days called "sears days" bought some good stuff in there for winter happy shopping Gill;) |

Good luck James, I'm sure your parents will be happy for you. I left my 80 year old mother and children behind and they were and still are very supportive.

Like you I'm 35, and arrived in Canada not so long ago on my own. I'm loving it so far, and I got work quickly too, although I'm lookiing for a new job at the moment..... I bed it's cold there, it's getting cold here in Van and we're meant to be the warmest city!!!! Take care and keep in touch with how you get on!!! Bx |

Bandit ive followed your story over the last few months ive just noticed you have posted a thread about a possible new job sadly it wasnt to be:( keep your chin up something else will turn up, hopefully i have a plan b in place if my job doesnt work out, as for missing family and friends webcam will be set up straight away but hopefully i will make plenty of new friends and quickly, i will update once im there take care:wub: James |
