Moving a Hot Tub

So, what should we do and any tips for doing this?
It is just moving out of the carport and up the garden but, never having had a hot tub or moved one before, I am not sure how best to proceed with this.

Empty out all of the water as it makes it lighter to move:eek:

Find a flat surface to move it to. Order a case of beer and pizza/wings and invite a group of friends over. Failing that seek out a hot tub dealer and ask them how much it would cost.

This is the problem with being new in a country - we don't know enough hefty chaps who can give us a hand!

I have the flat surface, though.:)

I am not even sure that I WANT a hot tub:confused:, but it is at the house and so we have to do something with it.

Re: Moving a Hot Tub

so it's at the house already and you want to do what? move it to a dfferent spot?

Get some jacks - jack it up, buy some castors from peavy mart lower it onto the castors and roll it into place.

If it involves moving it up or down steps / incline - then you are going to need manpower and probably some beer!

Put an ad on Kijiji!

Call a hot tub place, ask them to install it, sit back and watch.

Simple

Yep, it is currently under the carport, but we want to use that for the car (wierdos that we are:p)!
Ideally, it needs to go across the grass to the lower slopes of the garden, but just round the back of the carport would be fine for now.

And expensive, probably! In an effort to keep costs down where possible, DIY methods have to be explored.:o
Of course, if it has to be a professional job, then so be it.

What type of hot tub is it ? I know some (rotospa.com) are very light and easily moved - with no water in :). They also only need a 'normal' power socket.

If it is one of the bigger ones, does your flat area have the power as they need an upgraded supply I believe.

I'd call an installer and at least get a ball park quote before doing it myself. For no other reason that I could drink beer and watch 'em

I'll have to have a closer look at it. I think it just has a normal power supply, but I'll check that.
Thanks for the advice on that.:)

A friend an I moved one between us pretty easily, just took some planning. Make sure everything that needs draining and disconnecting is done, and work out the logistics of your route carefully.

We used fence posts to roll it on along the lawn to a flat bed trailer, where several hydraulic trolley jacks and some planks of wood to spread the load lifted it onto the trailer.

That sounds very do-able with, as you say, some thinking and planning beforehand.

Now, what about moving the shed?

I doubt that I could drag it down Highway 1 with a tractor, though!:p

My mistake - I should have said, the shed needs to be moved from my current house to my new one an hour down the Highway!!
