Re: Movie Thread: TNG
moved to here
last weekend with a cineplex gift card from the kids we saw 'Split' & give it 9.5/10
We now take our own popcorn (3 bags for $1) to the movies, one bag microwave popped before we leave, then put the topping on it when we get there. Why pay $8 or so.z
Later today we're going to see 'Gold'

'Goin' down the road' movie must same so strange
Have you ever watched that one Bristol?
Goin' Down the Road (1970) - IMDb
A few years ago on late TV there was Nicole Kidman early 1980's movie, now that could have been a 'Canadian east coast' or New England movie.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Watched Hidden Figures. Good acting and entertaining. A true story. Another slant on racism in USA.
Watched Fences. Great acting from Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Perhaps an Oscar for Washington.
Watched Manchester by the Sea. Good stuff and Affleck a solid candidate for the Oscar. It's about a broken man.
Watched Hacksaw Ridge. An inspiring movie (at least for me), somewhat brutal in warring scenes but overall a good watch.

I have just finished watching 'Manchester by the Sea', my prediction is that Casey Affleck will win the Academy Award for best actor.
I enjoyed it, easily a 8/10 from me.

Makes you wonder if an Australian in OZ or Brit that has never been outside the UK has the same reaction when watching a real Canadian movie (not made in Hollywood flick)?

It was a good movie if very dated.
Big fan of these locked up abroad, prisons abroad stuff. Might explain why I visited 5 different old jails when I went to Australia in 2010 lol.

I just watched "Arrival" - what a strange film.. and it left you hanging somewhat at the end. I enjoyed it (well, I like sci-fi) but felt there was potential for a more satisfying ending..

I saw the trailer for that and really wanted to see it.... now you have told me about the ending leaving you hanging.... not interested now....i REALLY hate movies with inconclusive endings!! lol I find them very annoying.....you sit there for over 2 hours....and then.....nothing.... hanging..... arrrrrrggggghhhh!!!!
Go and see it - it has rave reviews..

The black comedy Carry Me Back was also very good, but was New Zealand.

I remember watching a clip on local TV (the regionalised news slot just after 6.00pm - HTV) of the prison visit with the glass partition between Billy and girlfriend. I don't think whoever was responsible quite realised what was going on.

Not sure where they could go after the penultimate scene, I liked the way it matrixed it's way toward the ending myself. My son however did not understand any of it Lol

There was also Pricilla, Queen of the Desert. I also watched Bangkok Hilton, which was a late 1980s movie with Nicole Kidman and Hugo Weaving about a women who gets framed with smuggling drugs and her time in a jail in Thailand (I don't think it was Bangkang - the real Bangkok Hilton as that's a male jail).
It was a good movie if very dated.

At least I'm not the only one who's heard of it! Mentioned it to friends when we were having a 'what has she done to her face' moment after that advert at Christmas. They'd never heard of it despite being (like me) old enough to have watched it when it was shown on telly!
