I had a conversation with my Mum about this yesterday - I asked her if she wanted me to use UK Mother's Day or Canada's (she's not getting 2 cards!). We agreed on Canada's as she's only just had her birthday in late Feb anyway, so she should spread out the cards and pressies a bit!

Yup - I did a Moonpig card yesterday for my ma in Uk - but have told my kids I will be expecting BOTH dates to be honoured over here!!

OH thought this was a good idea til he realised that UK and Canadian Fathers day is on same date ha ha ha !!

Last year, while visiting the UK in February, I purchased some nice "Mum" cards ahead of time and then sent them off from here in good time.

This year, there are no "Mom" cards in the shops yet here in Canada - so I will get the kids to make one !! Not sure that she'd appreciate a "Mom" card anyway

Moonpig.com is a great site for every occasion.

They also do Mother's Day cards here

Edit: 4Bells had the same idea !

I do buy a Mum's day card in advance - I just have to remember 10 months later where I put it

Anyone got any ideas other than flowers and chocolate I can send? I sent her a Bay leaf tree last year from Tree to my door. something.

Try Hallmark, it used to drive me nuts that it wasnt on the same day and i couldnt pick up a card.....but last year, Hallmark in Royal Oak had a UK section, selling mothers day cards in advance, they must have caught on that theres lots of british out here. They even had the date posted, so it was nice to get a card that said "From Calgary". Im hoping they have them again this year, ive yet to check though - might do that tomorrow and will let you all know

Any theatres nearby, then maybe a couple of tickets to a show would be nice.

M&S have quite a few gift ideas on there aside from chocs and flowers: jewellary, accessories, arts and crafts, clothes, gift cards

Another website for gift ideas is www.sendit.com - DVDs, CDs, books, perfume and more. They deliver free too (and to Canada for low rates)

Walmart have a collection of mothers day cards in stock now. They include ones that are "across the miles" mothers day cards and ones that say "mum" not "mom".

Carlton cards also had a "Mothering Sunday" section with a nice selection of cards. They were also advertising the date of March 22.

That is because the Anglican celebration of Mothering Sunday is the same date internationally as it is a religious festival.

In the UK the date chosen for Mother Day is the same date as Mothering Sunday. Other countries choose differing dates for Mothers Day as they prefer not to associate it with a religious celebration.

I had never heard of Moonpig, but have just checked out the site and ordered a card for my mum. Cheers.
