Re: Mothers Day

I have no excuse for this one - in theory - because my Mum actually gave me an "English" calendar for Christmas. Unfortunately I have not actually turned the page to March and was under the very false impression that "Mother's Day is usually some time towards the end of March.........." So it is a good job I saw this thread too!

Thanks very much for the reminder. My Mum would have seen the funny side and not bothered, but the mother-in-law - well that is an entirely different matter!!!! (The year she was 60, my OH - who struggles to remember how old our children are, let alone his parents, did not realise it was her 60th and just sent her an "ordinary" card. She did not speak to him for six months, believe it or not!)

I've got two sisters still in the UK. They send flowers for UK Mothers' Day. I figure it's nicer for Mum to have two Mothers' Days a year, rather than three bunches of flowers all at once.

So I ignore this date.

Works for me.

If only one would fit in the letter box - i've spent all afternoon trying to squish one in:rofl:

I've sent a bay leaf tree - not only can she use it for cooking but it has healing and protective properties, she's a bit of a wreck so every little helps!

Mothers day this weekend and my mother is 80 on 30th so I've got a lot of trawlling of the internet to do. This is the first time I've felt a bit guilty at being in Canada - I rang her today and was on the phone for over an hour and she was great, so I feel ok again now

Oh and it's St David's Day on Saturday.

Yes and if you sent a sugar maple then come the spring she could start to boil up her own maple syrup.

It's the gift that keeps on giving. ;)

Excellent. She sounds like an eminently practical woman.

You could go that extra mile and buy her some demijohns to store her home brewed maple liqueur in.

Having a daughter still in the UK and one with us here, I get two mothers days this year !!!! Must say I was very impressed with daughter number one whose card arrived today, seeing as OH's birthday card arrived two days late!

Number two daughter has her birthday on 18th March and on a couple of occasions we have had to share the occasion, Mothers Day in the morning, her birthday in the afternoon, so she is very pleased to see Mothers Day other over here is later.

For my Mum, I regularly send her flowers via Bunches in the UK. Still use my UK credit card for that, but expect you could use Canadian one. Paid extra to get a card included, and on occasions they include a small free box of chocs.

Happy Mothers Day :)
