More Foreign Worker fallout.

Just came across this article about foreign workers which ties into the recent discussions about RBC and others who are allegedly hiring foreign workers.
We know the RBC did not hire them but their practices of contracting out to others who then hire them have been brought into question.
It is interesting reading the comments on the CBC story link to follow of how people are viewing this in respect to Canadas unemployed.
I see more of this coming to a head and wonder will the govt become stricter in the hiring of foreign workers and making it become more difficult to hire a foreign worker.

It's definitely become an issue and I think the TWP programme will be tightened up as a result. All to the good, I say. It's flown under the radar for too long and it needs to be out in the open and talked about.

According to friends @ RBC, the bank wasn't prepared for the backlash at all and has been in crisis mode since the story broke - employees being told not to speak to media, management in crisis meetings, etc. I know a couple of unions in Burnaby and the City of Burnaby are talking about withdrawing funds from RBC as a result.

Monsanto sacked all the workers at a pork production facility in Alberta years ago and replaced them with staff from the U.S.. I know a couple of the displaced people and they were quite put out about it. (No pun)

Have a look at any meat packing/processing plant in Alberta especially Brooks and tell me there are no foreign workers.

I worked at a hotel once and the owner fired everyone to bring in foreign workers from India, he called everyone one day and said we had been replaced.

Whilst on an exploritory visit I had an interview at Maple Leaf in Brandon MB. I may as well have been in Venezuala or China for that matter. They even have there own grocery shop for the staff at the plant selling Central American and Chinese products, at extortionate rates I'm lead to believe!
