Mmmmmmm... Yummy back bacon available in Edmonton.
I was at the Callingwood Farmers Market here in Edmonton yesterday and happened upon a stall selling sausages etc, when I noticed a sign about traditional dry cure back bacon.
I was a little excited, which is a bit sad I know, but after 4 years in Texas and then a year here we've all been hankering after bacon butties.
When I heard the man talking I got really excited as he was British, so my hopes for proper bacon went through the roof, and then when he got it out of the freezer, hubby and I were jubilant.
We'd actually been to a deli the day before looking for proper back bacon as someone had told us they sold it there, but no, not the right stuff, so we were just made up when we saw it and raced home to cook it.
Bloody fantastic! Just make your mouth water delicious. We'll be going back next week for more bacon, sausages, and hopefully a nice cut of pork as well.
As well as the farmers markets they are also selling at a couple of other locations in Edmonton, so if anyone local is fancying some lovely back bacon I would highly recommend it. This is their site with details of the locations they are selling at and markets they will be attending. http://www.irvingsfarmfresh.com/
Oh and I thought it was really reasonably priced as well. $15 for 2 lbs.
Apologies if this is old news but I'd not found a thread about it and thought it well worth sharing

Great thanks Judy! Hopefully it will help someone else feed their need for a real bacon sarnie

It would take me 5 hours to travel from Med Hat to Edmonton and weighing up the cons; about $100 in gas, a day off work, a full day spent cooked up in the car, I reckon it will be money well spent.

Anyone know of a butcher / farmer in Eastern Canada doing wonderful work for bringing real bacon sarnies to the people?
