Misty Windows....

So we have a basic model Chevy Aveo - in the damp weather, the windows steam up - is there anything we can spray on the windows that will stop this happening?

No suggestions about getting a better car - yes, yes we know...

I suppose you're going to be picky and insist the stuff has to be transparent.

<maybe spray on teflon?>

i'm not aware of anything - just keep the blowers on medium and directed at the windows!!!!!

As an aside the freezing fog was a real eye opener a couple of days ago.

One minute driving along nicely - the next minute BAMM - iced up windshield akin to a scene from that movie where everyone freezes (can't remember) - result - rest of journey with heaters on full blasting at the windshield and me in a spaghetti strap top in minus 16 outside!!!!!!!

Scary stuff when all of a sudden (and I mean within milliseconds) you go from clear vision to no vision.

Washing up liquid on a cloth. Wipe the windows with it, usually stops them steaming up.

Doesn't it make the windows smeary though - or am I missing something here?

Hmm, on the drivers side I would say possibly - not so concerned about the rest of the windows, where us non-drivers are sitting.

There is also a product called Rain X Anti-Fog. I have no experience with it but might be worth a try.

I use rain x all the time. Its good for both inside and outside of the vehicle. Its so good that you dont even need the wipers as the water beads up and runs offa the windows.

Down side is it has a strong odour.

Make sure that your blowers are set up to draw outside air. If they are set for internal recycle air then that will meke em steam up too.

What do motorcyclists use on the inside of their visors? I remember my brother had some sort of antifog spray. Ski goggle have some sort of coating too?

Really though all I can suggest is an autostarter and let it warm up for a while before you get in. Most modern vehicles run the AC when the blower is set in the screen demist position. Without AC to dehumidify the air though it will take longer.

It is more when we are in it - we get in with damp clothes etc or breath whilst driving ( ) and all the windows steam up.

I used to use a small dab of washing up liquid and rub into the visor till it was clear. Not great for a full windshield though.

To the op

Try a dab of wash up liq on a clean cloth and rub into one of the side windows. You will see an immidiate effect.

But if its warm already it will clear a bit sooner.

Really the answer is the one you know already... get a car with A/C to dehumidify the air.

Washing up liquid may help by causing all those tiny drops that fog up the glass to join into larger drops that will run off and be less of a hinderence to vision.
