How many of you are wearing masks when you are out and about? Do you think we will be required to wear masks in public now they are talking about lifting the rules? I don't know whether I should bother getting a washable one or not, maybe worth it for future air travel??

My wife wears one when she goes into stores. I don't as we only have one.

California requires masks when in certain public places, well a face covering, mask, paper bag, you name it people have done it......So wouldn't be shocked if some provinces require it at some point, but who knows.

I have decided not to fly until either there is a vaccine or it dies out on its own/no longer a major issue. I hate things on my face, and couldn't imagine wearing a mask or face covering for hours on end in a plane.

I don't believe I am infected and, that being the case, why would I wear one? Transmission is via droplets so, unless you intend to go somewhere where you believe someone will spit on you, why would you wear one? Washing hands is far more important.

But isn't this Trump's defence?
My wife wears one when she shops, I sit in the car. Not only is wearing one at this time comforting for others, but you can't be absolutely sure that you aren't a carrier.
To me it's such a little thing, such a small contribution to the welfare of others that it seems ridicuous not to contribute to the greater good.

It is my opinion after doing lots of research. I don't speak for anyone else on this board.

I don't sneeze at people, I don't spit at them either. What do you believe wearing one is actually preventing?

Good job this doesn't apply to Canada stores...yet.

I am happy for everyone to be safe but, if we are all keeping 6 feet from the next person, how will a mask help? In addition, if they are now suddenly required, why weren't they required before?

From what I have read masks are not to keep you from getting sick, but to keep you from spreading it to others and help contain your droplets.

That is what BC CDC says anyhow on their website.

"wearing a mask can help in containing your own droplets and protect others but it will not protect you from COVID-19. "

Masks

Masks
And the reason there weren't required previously is? If we were not a danger to others previously, how come we are now?

It's more of a I've seen the sign for Costco and the requirements for flying, is this going to become widespread. If it is I'll order a cute one, off of one of these it takes forever and a day but is cheap places.

I had to wear one at the Dr's the other day. Felt like a numpty and it gets hot pretty quick, so would rather not wear one.

There have been many news reports of shortages and that what supplies there were to be found, health and care workers were considered the priority?

Some quick examples from googling
European CDC - 8/4/20 - A facemask may help reduce the spread of infection in the community by minimising the excretion of respiratory droplets from infected individuals who may not even know they are infected….The use of medical face masks by healthcare workers must be given priority over the use in the community.
MSN New Zealand - 2/4/20 - A top epidemiologist in Hong Kong says it is safer for people to wear surgical masks if they are available, but health workers must have first call when supplies are short.
CTV - 3/420 - There have even been reports the WHO is evaluating its policy on the use of masks in light of recent studies that suggest people who don’t have any symptoms or haven’t exhibited symptoms yet can still infect others… Canadian doctors have started to encourage the use of face masks in public as an additional strategy to combat the disease…Infectious diseases specialist Dr. Jeff Kwong says that when it comes to face masks, the first consideration should be for health-care workers.

“First and foremost, we need to ensure that there is enough supply of masks for our health-care workers,” he told CTV’s Your Morning on Friday.

Of.course I am. A matter of days later, Alberta, apparently, had so many that they could send them all across Canada. . I am also aware that, apparently, home made ones or scarves can be used. Your point is?

I am aware that lots of people will do whatever they are told without question. Fortunately, there are some that ask questions and obtain answers.

Again, if someone could point me in the direction of the science that says that their use is required, my opinion may change.

Are you able to explain why remaining at least 2 metres from others is not sufficient?

See edit...most of the world was advising priority for health/care workers.

Well there was a report in the news a couple of weeks ago of the effect of a sneeze in a supermarket that spread a damned sight more than 6 feet.

I suppose now you'll be saying that everyone religiously maintains that distance.

Haven't worn a face mask yet. Seems likely they will become a requirement, although the real purpose does appear to be to address mental/anxiety/control illusion issues.
