marmite and pickle

Just a quickie,

We have the shippers coming Tuesday and they have said we could take Marmite and Pickle as long as we did not tell them (ie pack it in a box.) This leads me to think maybe we shouldn't be doing it

I have had a look at what is prohibited and it does not mention jars, can or tins.

Has anybody else done this and has it been a problem?

I'm a frequent and repeat Marmite smuggler when I travel between UK and Canada. I feel no remorse and have had no problems to date.:D

Just pack the Branston & Marmite and don't worry.

Both are sold in Canada so I don't see much problem. The issue with the packers may be that they are not allowed to take opened containers of food. Just hide them.

Thanks for this (Insert sigh of relief)

I can just about cope with leaving family and friends but leaving Marmite may just be too much !!

They do say you either love it or hate it!!

My three year old is the same , I will try to gently wean him off it onto "Jelly" (jam I think for us brits)

I feel a wheeling out and shooting moment coming on.

Why on earth would you want to wean a child off a vitamin-packed food and onto pure sugar?

Only and that is a very big only, if I can't find it on PEI.

If I had to buy Jelly I promise it would be the 100% fruit type.

Did I survive the shooting ??

I think you will be able to get it. The PEI government website has a section on peanut safety (school lunches). Marmite is suggested as a safe alternative to peanut butter.

That's not entirely true. I have yet to find either in my local supermarkets. I don't think marmite is terribly popular in Quebec, which is slightly ironic, given that it's a French word.

Correct. Marmite is a yeast infection. Bovril is dead cow.

Usually in the organic or imported food section of a supermarket it's possible to find jam & marmalade that isn't 50% sugar as most North American product is. (Inc. Robinsons Golden Shred US/Canada style.) I buy marmalade with some french name in a tall thin jar. It's very good.

Marmite can also be usually found but in small jars often in the baking section. Very expensive. Bring 500g jars from UK with you. They last forever.

I can get marmite in Superstore, thriftys and country grocer. In 2 it is next to the jellys etc in the other it is in the section where bovril, graveys etc is. Have not found branston pickle in shops yet only in tourist 'english' shops where you have to pay an arm and leg for it.
