Re: Marks and Spencer deliver to Canada
I just spent aaaaages going through the website with my wishlist!
Was just wondering how much duty you would pay though if you did a big order of stuff. |
Re: Marks and Spencer deliver to Canada
It's so weird, I was actually looking at that yesterday and saw it for the first time, but it isn't cheap, 20 pounds plus taxes. If anyone does it could they let us know how much delivery and taxes comes to?
Mothercare also delivers here. I still think it is easier to send someone the money and get them to buy the stuff. |
Re: Marks and Spencer deliver to Canada
I had a crate of choccie goodies ordered by a family member for us at Easter and shipped here by the company directly (not M&S) and the tax, import duty and brokerage fees (!?) came to over $35. As lovely as the chocolate was - makes it a very pricey practice! I'll stick to whatever people bring in their cases from now on.
Also, just had a small pair of curtains and 2 pillowcases shipped up from the US - small, lightweight. Still over $20 required at my door!! |

Re: Marks and Spencer deliver to Canada
Duty varies, clothes not made by NAFTA members is at least 17%.
Looking at the latest Customs invoice for "Raging Brit" tell me:- Foods vary, without any logic to it:- McVites Hob Nobs - 11% Tunnocks Tea Cakes - 3% Paxo - 5.5% Marmite - 9.5% Crisps - 6% Lucozade - 11% Marmalade - 8.5% Thorntons Toffee - 10% Heinz Baked Beans - 8% On top of the Duty is any relevant Tax, plus a Brokerage fee. |

Wahoo, thanks Y-C-D
I hope they're taking the 17.5% VAT off for non-EU orders, that'll help with the PST/GST/Duty/fee sting at this end!! |

Surely it must be cheaper just to buy it at the supermarket?

Re: Marks and Spencer deliver to Canada
For those of you who are recent arrivals, we used to have M&S in Canada. The company just couldn't make it here. I suspect the only patrons they got were from UK and its marketing tecniques were judged inadequate for the North American market.

Re: Marks and Spencer deliver to Canada
I used to own a mobilehome in the South of France where there were a vast amount of expat Brits living. A very enterprising French lady decided to open a market stall selling all those typically British foodstuffs that weren't readily available there. Being a partner in the EU she didn't pay any additional taxes she just covered her costs on travelling up to Dover and filling her van up. Then doubled or even tripled the price.... and still sold out each week.
I suppose a new thread could be started "What would you sell if you had a shop in Canada" or similar :D |
