Are many of you under the weather?

I only ask as today I have phoned two places in NB and spoke to one woman who was the only one in out of 12 employees and then straight after to another who was the only one of 9 who had pitched up. Spoke to the pharmacist today and she says half of Fredericton has succumbed. She even gave me prescription only drugs!

I missed BE for two weeks as I was in the grips of the same....not flu, but a virus with cold and fever and a cough that is quite unshakable...it feels like the hangover from hell...without the fun bit first!

Is this prevailing amongst the rest of you or is it just an Eastern speciality?

I will inevitably get a cold in the next two weeks.
It is the combination of germ breeding children arriving back at school, my busiest time of year and airline travel.

Yes, weird, I had a cold earlier this week but I'm fine now, and I'm all the way in BC.

I was a mess. I hate how whiney I get with a cold.

Third week of school and one of germ breeding kids has a cold, so I predict it's about to spread around the house (probably literally)

I have this. Half of the department has this. Meetings sound like a cancer ward and must be quite unpleasant for those conferencing in.

Isn't north america foot and mouth free?
Hence the hysteria on travellers from the UK during the outbreak?

Non-Polio Enterovirus Infection: Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) - CDC

This has been going around most states and now in Canada, mostly affecting kids though.

I haven't really been sick, but I have been very fatigued, dry cough, and achy for the last few days, kind of like I am getting sick, but not really quite sick yet, its a weird feeling.

I had a similar bug to that - the cough lasted 3-4 weeks before it finally went but that was probably due to me being a smoker too; others who got it the cough lasted around 2 weeks. I don't take medications unless I am really sickly so just used hot lemon drinks, the odd advil and that was about it.

Thankfully now completely over it.

Hope you feel better soon!

Oh yes! I'm in a Company of 13 and seven of us currently have it, and our hacking coughs are ringing a death knell through the building:( you can't stay home though...not for three weeks:blink:

Very best wishes to all that have had or are about to get it:thumbup:

Yes, lots of kids here have got hand, foot and mouth....is this some new thing? I'd never heard of it till I came here?

Canadians are neurotic. They can't even have a sniffle without declaring that it's "flu season" and sending out Powerpoint presentations on how to sneeze and not touching door handles.

Nope. I thought January was flu season.

I came down with something last week (bad cough, cold and sore throat) but I put it down to hostel living, bad diet and exhaustion. Better this week though as I got rid of if through spicy food :)

Generally peaks in Jan/Feb but can start as early as October and run as late as May.

It's apparently one of the oldest viral infections known.

http://www.questdiagnostics.com/dms/...er/2013_05.pdf

"Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD) is one of the oldest
viral infections known and was described in Egyptian hieroglyphs dating back to 1,400 BC. "

"Don't come into work if you're feeling ill they say." Yet, when I roll in a bit late with a pounding headache, an upset stomach and reeking of booze, I get a talking to. Double standards if you ask me. :frown:

If one keeps their alcohol levels topped up illness is usually kept at bay.

I've not had anything for a good 14 months when I got caught up in the super storm and kept my wet clothes on.

Sounds to me like you're a slacker. If you'd done the groundwork and made the effort to come in rat-arsed and hungover every day they'd have become habituated to it by now. The aroma of stale Cointreau fumes would almost be a familiar comfort to them in the morning meeting.

I've had gastritis since April, missed two days, both for medical appointments. Do I get a prize?

They should change it to, "don't come into work if you're feeling under the weather because of a bacterial, viral or protist-induced illness".

I've got some kind of flu thing which I think I caught from a 'friend' who decided that meeting up and sharing germs was a far better idea than staying home!! I was hoping it was a 7 day thing :(
