Just a few comments

No imaging detection is 100% accurate.

Mammograms are less useful in women with more glandular tissue in their breasts, ie younger women or women on HRT. This is because the breasts are dense and the glandular tissue can obscure a lesion. THis is why mammograms are rarely done on young women and why screening starts at 40- 50 years (depending on who is providing the service)

Some lesions are seen on ultrasound only.

If you have a lump/breast changes then examination will include a mammogram, an ultrasound and clinical examination.

This is a useful site giving information about "Breast Awareness" , ie what changes to be aware off all the time- rather than monthly self exam looking for lumps.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but is there a free programme of mammograms in Canada when you get to 50? And what about cervical smears?

All the provinces have a breast screening programme but how it runs varies from province to province

The canadian cancer society has a website with info on many cancers.

Even if you have to pay it only costs around the same as a good pair of shoes, or getting your hair cut and coloured
