If he came to my bar we'd turn off the cameras and kick the stuffing out of him.

So depressingly far from the truth. You think women's rights have come so far and then realize my 6 yr old daughter will still be fighting for equal rights when she's an adult. That's what women are marching for.

Paul Shepherd... like attracts like. I guess you choose to ask or hang around with women that think like you. Everyone does it, no shame. But thankfully all those women who marched disagree, by even marching and forcing you to think about it they've achieved something.

My post was meant as ironic. An 18 year old boy who has lived a relatively priviledged life telling adults about women's rights and equality. Walk a mile in my 54 year old shoes!

There are a few interesting/amusing amendments being put forward by women to anti abortion legislation. One is that it should be an offence against an unborn child for men to spill semen unless reproduction is intended. Another is that before men are prescribed Viagra they should have a rectal exam and watch a video on the possible side effects of Viagra. Probably not at the same time.

Time for a new pair. I'm surprised they still fit after 54 years.

Yes, im just going by my own experiences in life, I have worked in Engineering mainly as a draughtsperson for 20 years, and although i agree its been harder sometimes for women to be heard, (due to it being a more male orientated proffesion, and some individuals exercising outdated chauvinism) the women i have worked with have been treated equally with regards to salary and conditions, occasionally there has been the odd manager who will single out and try to victimise a woman and say shes not up to the job, but i have also had managers that have done that to me too, those kind of people do that to anyone, its all about them being an inadequate person, they do this to make themselves look and feel better about themselves.

Even the rules for the line of sucession to the throne have been updated now and rightly so.

I suppose it depends on the profession you work in and put simply wheather your boss is an a hole. I havent experienced gender discrimination in my work circles, my families circles or my friends. (male and female) Lead movie actors maybe an example of gender discrimination, but to be fair all actors are overpaid anyway.

I will agree though Trump is an utter mysogynist, no argument there, but hes been voted in now, so we all need to accept it and move on with our lives, there is nothing anyone can do. Maybe im over simpifying it, just my opinion.

So ****** thinks I live in a sad world according to karma, I of course don't, but it does demonstrate the level of his ignorance towards the inequality women still face.

Edited to add... actually your comment rather sums it all up, as a man you think you are best placed to tell a woman that she doesn't know what she's talking about..

Your experience is unusual then.

Discrimination isn't just down to "those kind of people" it's often unwittingly done and maybe you just don't see it.

I've worked in female dominated profession for over 40 years and seen that men are often promoted over women of equal skills and experience. Women also discriminate against women assuming that the man knows more. There have been many times when patients assume that the male radiographer is in charge, or a doctor, and that the older female is the subordinate. The same happens in nursing, lab technicians etc.

Discrimination starts when we ascribe different characters and attributes according to gender. A dominant girl child is pushy or bossy and told to quieted down, a dominant boy child is praised and encouraged.

There's so much more to it than $$$, but of course that is important.

You strike me as the sort of person who will have been to WalMart. WalMart is a famously crappy employer and cashier at WalMart is a particularly crappy job entailing shifts, too few hours for benefits and a need to deal with loathsome customers daily. What do the cashiers at WalMart have in common? They're women, that's what.

Why do you think women choose to be cashiers at WalMart rather than accountants, plumbers, professional golfers and so on? It could be that women like to be poorly paid, have sore feet and be treated badly. It could also be that there's something in the system that puts disproportionate numbers of them there.

I don't think anyone wants sore feet so my money is on systemic discrimination.

Unless affected by discrimination many people assume everyone has equal opportunity. There is also the mindset people have of "If I can do it, anyone can do it."

On paper we may all have equal rights but that doesn't mean we have equal opportunity and are treated equal.

Women, blacks, Mexicans, disabled folks, mentally ill folks to name a few groups that face uphill battles each day.

There are exceptions but exceptions are just that and don't mean a problem doesn't exist.

Fair point about the dominant girl child told to quieten down but not the male dominant child.... but this is what it used to be like, things are really only just starting to change...and this is because gender roles have only just started to change, more apparently over the last 20 years, so things are changing, but its not like a light switch, things cant change over night.

When I was a child in the 70s, I grew up in a family where my Dad went out to work (and worked very hard) paid for everything and my mom looked after the home and raised my sister and I….(and also worked very hard) thats what it was like back then, of course these days things have changed a lot, and most families relationships are equal, both have a job and both equally share the domestic chores. Or even the other way around where the woman will be the highest earner, and the man will look after the home and the children

I suppose what I am trying to say is that times are changing and have already come a long way, they will continue to change, as changing gender roles have progressed, people view life through different eyes than what they used to and the next generation will progress further.

Even though Trump is a misogynist, I cant see his administration taking rights away from women that are established, (but don’t quote me in that ) I think there are other things that will occupy his presidential priorities. Granted he probably wont do anything to promote the cause of women in the work place, but then did Obama?

I think progression in this department is more down to natural progression of a culture and mind set of its people. Trump is a bad ambassdor for this especially being in such a powerful position. However the people who see him as a “role model” are unlikely going to change their thinking anyway.

Culture and mindset in firstworld countries will continue to progress regardless of Trump, as his opinions and perception of women will be increasingly seen as out of date and irrelevant to your average person, if theyre not already.
