BBC's Horizon do some good documentaries. The last one was about the difficulties of a manned mission to Mars. We tend to assume that such a trip is feasible based on the moon landings, but it turns out there is a slew of other issues that arise when going to the red planet.

Great programme. With the loss of manufacturing jobs its very grim up north. Whole generations on benefits. I think even if there were jobs now, most of them wouldn't know what to do. It must be soul destroying to know that even your great granddad couldn't get job back in the 1970s. Interesting but very sad. :(

Yes, many of them would have difficulty competing for jobs. In the first episode it was sad to see the young guy (Fungi's friend) turning to a life of crime and getting arrested in the city center. He seemed to be more capable than that.

Britain's Great War on BBC iPlayer with Paxo. Rather enjoyed it and learnt a few things along the way.
