BBC's Horizon do some good documentaries. The last one was about the difficulties of a manned mission to Mars. We tend to assume that such a trip is feasible based on the moon landings, but it turns out there is a slew of other issues that arise when going to the red planet.

Great programme. With the loss of manufacturing jobs its very grim up north. Whole generations on benefits. I think even if there were jobs now, most of them wouldn't know what to do. It must be soul destroying to know that even your great granddad couldn't get job back in the 1970s. Interesting but very sad. :(

Yes, many of them would have difficulty competing for jobs. In the first episode it was sad to see the young guy (Fungi's friend) turning to a life of crime and getting arrested in the city center. He seemed to be more capable than that.

Indeed. If 'Benefits Street' has been described as 'poverty porn' then I don't know about this.

He certainly seemed a very capable thief! Given his prospects, not an entirely irrational career choice.

Imagine how we felt we thought we were going be watching a docu on 'dog walking' :-)

Another couple of documentaries on the same lines as benefits street are -

The Truth about Payday Loans British and Broke BBC Full documentary 2013

On Benefits & Proud - Channel 5 Documentary

Both should be on YT

Don't you find those type of docs a bit depressing ? I only managed two episodes of Benefits Street, good though it was.

Britain's Great War on BBC iPlayer with Paxo. Rather enjoyed it and learnt a few things along the way.

Sobering watching Inside Job again on Netflix, won't be the last time I'm sure of either watching it nor of it happening.

Inequality for All was an interesting watch if you're into economics/politics.
