Expensive drugs. Must be rough for these patients who know there is a drug that can help but cant access due to the cost and being too old for coverage from the govt.

Nothing like an accidental warning to get people to order potassium iodine pills.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...eoFccVrgZVKu-4

Over the weekend 32,000 orders were received, average month sees 100-200 orders.

I am sure some did, and other maybe not even aware such a thing existed, I had no idea until that article and my time in ON nobody ever mentioned the nuclear facilities surrounding the area I was in and I had no idea.. but I was only there 4 months so not very long.

We have no such plants in BC, so not something of a concern here.

Seems like a reasonable idea, there will always be people who use drugs, may as well develop harm reduction such as this and accept society can't stop people from using drugs.

https://nationalpost.com/news/local-...box=1579464234

The person has to be registered, and the machine uses bio-metrics to identify the person, random Joe or Jane or Bobby can't just go and get drugs from it.

Currently only 8 people registered to use it and it dispenses a safer dosage of hydromorphone.

A few days ago I read a heartwarming item in the local paper about staff at the city library allowing homeless people to pass time in the library, keeping warm, sleeping etc.

A couple of days later the same newspaper published incident reports it had obtained for the city library. Many incidents appeared to follow staff telling homeless people not to sleep and eat.

Good idea if done properly.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...sing-1.5431915

The article touches on what is one of the biggest barriers disabled have to housing, the BC government only provides $375 per month to a single person and $570 per month to a couple to cover their housing costs, which is far far below what is actually needed to secure market rental so the government has 2 choices really 1) increase disability rates to match actual reality of housing or 2) Build massive amounts of social housing.

The free market is failing badly when it comes to providing housing.

I haven't really followed that story beyond the headline. Maybe its from all the similiar stories that happen in the US and it doesn't seem like news anymore.

Apparently 90% of first time home buyers according to this survey got help from their parents.

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/firs...mom-dad-survey

Guess we are the abnormal ones not having access to bank of parents. It will never happen for us, we will be stuck paying overpriced rent for life.

Uber was finally approved, as was Lyft.

If there wasn't a requirement to have a class 4 licence, I would give it a try.

Sumas, WA which is right across the border from Abbotsford, BC about 50 minutes east of Vancouver flooded a bit from the recent rains, we had some pretty significant rain apparently in some areas.
