Default Life labs cyber attack

Well seems our medical information isn't safe either. Life Labs was compromised a couple months ago and even paid ransom to get the data back.

The servers that were accessed contained information on 15 million people, 4 million in BC, considering the BC population is a little over 5 million seems nearly everyone in BC could have had their lab results, MSP number, address, name, birthday etc compromised.

Yes - and Ontario.. Lifelabs are offering a 1 year paid cyber security package (ID theft).

https://customernotice.lifelabs.com/
LifeLabs recently identified a cyber-attack that involved unauthorized access to our computer systems with customer information that could include name, address, email, login, passwords, date of birth, health card number and lab test results..........

.............There is information relating to approximately 15 million customers on the computer systems that were potentially accessed in this breach. The vast majority of these customers are in B.C. and Ontario, with relatively few customers in other locations......

.......Any customer who is concerned about this incident can receive one free year of protection that includes dark web monitoring and identity theft insurance.

I have like 4 different free security packages now, most recent was Capital One, not sure if I will take Life Labs up since it seems to basically be the exact same as Capital One.

Got this email today. Guess since I am not in ON and haven't been notified that is a plus. They don't use the life labs website anymore for BC appointments, but I wonder why they don't purge the info from their website for BC patients since we don't use the life labs website any longer to book appointments, seems unnecessary to keep data that is no longer needed.

Appears myehealth was not affected, I am not sure Life Labs even runs that site as its been around since before Life Labs moved into BC.Dear Valued Customer,

You may have heard that LifeLabs recently experienced a cyber-attack involving unauthorized access to some of its computer systems with customer information that could include name, address, email, logins, passwords, date of birth, health card numbers, gender, phone numbers, password security questions and lab test results.

Our investigations to date indicate that your online appointment booking account registered using this email address was within the systems that were potentially affected. Note in BC, this email address is no longer used to book online appointments. BC customers are not required to take any action because this system is no longer used to book appointments in the province.

Please note that the my ehealth and my results portals used by patients to access test results were not affected by this incident.

Please be advised that this message does not mean that you are one of the 85,000 lab test customers impacted. These customers are primarily based in Ontario. If you are one of these customers, you will be notified by us separately.

As we have announced elsewhere, our cyber security firms have advised that the risk to our customers in connection with this cyber-attack is low and that they have not seen any public disclosure of customer data as part of their investigations, including monitoring of the dark web and other online locations.
