The Liberal Promises.
So we are now rid of Harper as the PM, and leader of the PC party but he retained his seat to sit as an MP.
So with JT as the new PM and a majority and a platform of its time for change and 4 years to prove himself lets see how many promises he keeps. Here are a few in very brief detail and in no particular order We will legalize, regulate, and restrict access to marijuana. Im OK with this to a degree. New question for the declaration card might be How many grammes of marijuana are you in possession of? We will reverse Stephen Harper’s cuts and make new investments to support our national broadcaster. I only watch the CBC for news, Coronation St and the odd sporting event. We will invest in our cultural and creative industries to create jobs and grow the middle class, and to strengthen our rich Canadian identity. See BE readers we have culture in Canada and an identity. We will repeal the problematic elements of Bill C-51, and introduce new legislation that better balances our collective security with our rights and freedoms. Nothing wrong with that. We will take action to get handguns and assault weapons off our streets. Nothing wrong with that in fact its a no brainer. We will make it easier for veterans to access services, including mental health services. So reopen the 9 offices the PC's closed and maybe Veterans Affairs could hire more Veterans as opposed to 25 in the last 10 years. We will immediately launch a national public inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada. This will definitely cost a lot of money and won't be as easy as some think. We will end Canada’s combat mission in Iraq. Our contribution wasn't that big but did cost money so OK with that. We will make investing in the Royal Canadian Navy a top priority. Sorry UK we won't be buying garage sale items off you especially submarines. We will not buy the F-35 stealth fighter-bomber. OK but what do we fly in the meantime? Those CF18s are getting a bit old. We will expand export opportunities that benefit Canada. OK we will sell more natural resources as we don't exactly have a thriving manufacturing sector. We will welcome more refugees from Syria to Canada, and offer more help to those providing aid in the region. To that end, we will expand Canada’s intake of refugees from Syria by 25,000 through immediate government sponsorship. We will also work with private sponsors to accept even more. To do this, we will invest $250 million, including $100 million this fiscal year, to increase refugee processing, as well as sponsorship and settlement services capacity in Canada. Mmmm undecided on this. We will make it easier and more affordable to hire caregivers. Canadian families looking for caregivers to help family members with physical or mental disabilities must pay a $1,000 Labour Market Impact Assessment fee. We will eliminate that fee. So does this mean more foreign workers as the vast majority of caregivers are. We will make it easier for immigrants to build successful lives in Canada, and contribute to the economic success of all Canadians. We will immediately double the number of applications allowed for parents and grandparents, to 10,000 each year. Additional healthcare costs guaranteed. We will fix Employment Insurance to better serve Canadians now, and help boost Canada’s economic growth now and in the long-term. I have never understood that those in seasonal jobs can earn more than me in 6 months and then can claim EI for another 6 months. We will kick-start investment in innovation to grow our economy and create good, middle class jobs. Great but can we compete against other countries that have low labour costs? We will help Canadians get the training they need to find and keep good jobs. Does this mean actually investing in our own citizens rather than relying on foreign workers? We will invest in public transit to shorten commute times, cut air pollution, strengthen our communities, and grow our economy. Make parking fees higher in major centres which will then force people to use public transit. We will make it easier for Canadians to find an affordable place to call home. Except in Vancouver and Toronto. We will cut the middle income tax bracket to 20.5 percent from 22 percent – a seven percent reduction. Canadians with taxable annual income between $44,700 and $89,401 will see their income tax rate fall. Bring it on baby. We will establish new performance standards for federal services. We will deliver easy online access to government services. Obviously he isn't planning on hiring more Govt employees. We will save home mail delivery. More flyers in your mail box or how about delivery twice a week? We will make the Supreme Court appointment process more transparent. How about the best people for the job and not based on party affiliation and do all 9 need to be bilingual? We will provide better oversight of taxpayer dollars. No more $16 dollar glasses of orange juice and have MP's heard of economy class for flights less than say 4 hours? We will bring real change to the Senate. This Ive gotta see. We will make free votes in the House of Commons standard practice. So no whipped votes along party lines? So there you have it folks let the fun and games begin. BTW Justin leave my pension and sick time alone  |
Re: The Liberal Promises.
;) Who is paying for all of the above ? I expect work on the Toronto to Vancouver LRT to start January then, and bike lanes on the 401 ;)

With interest rates at very low levels for borrowing money many have said borrow the money at these rates for your promises. I haven't heard many of them say but if the interest rates go up significantly then you are ****ed and you will need to collect more money from the taxpayers.;) |

Sorry UK we won't be buying garage sale items off you especially submarines I saw inside those very vessels during 'refurbishment' at BAE Systems in Barrow, when they dodged the scrap yard after being pawned off to Canada. I also saw the Canadian Navy at work  The British Government really saw you coming with that one. Designed in the 1970s, built in the 1980s, most were never actually used for anything much (2 years in service typically). Sold to Canada in 1998... Wasn't it Cretin who bought those? You know, the Liberal PM.... |

Well the taxpayers will be paying for most of this although we do get some revenue from non taxpayers of Canada such as Immigrants, students and foreign workers and visitors. We do export some stuff so that is also additional revenue.

Re: The Liberal Promises.
How long did it take you to type all that lot and why does it bother you so much that you had to?

So you don't believe in holding people to account when they ask you to vote for them or question them about promises they make but won't keep. |

Barrow was really the only place he went to in the UK so he didn't have a very favourable impression.
Barrow isn't exactly the crown jewel of Cumbria, despite calling itself 'The Gateway to the Lake District' for those cruise passengers who are unfortunate enough to stop off there... Britains longest cul-de-sac... |

Tell me he didn't fertilise a Barrow lass and bring her back with him...

Britains longest cul-de-sac... I play soccer with him and it turns out that the father of one of the other players on the team was the landlord of a pub in Barrow during that time and the navy guy had been in the pub. It didn't leave him with a favourable impression of the UK. |

FL, I was wondering the same. Did you cut and paste it or did you actually type it? |

FL, I was wondering the same. Did you cut and paste it or did you actually type it? The comments underneath were my observations. When awake early in the morning and bored with nothing to do its amazing what you can do for no apparent reason other than I can do it if I want. I bet in 6 months time most will have forgotten about what any party would say they would do so here is a record of some of their promises. |
