I would have thought it would have been recognised on the actual day as we do here in Canada.

I am surprised it is shifted to a Sunday.
It's always been celebrated on the Sunday. Church services, cenotaph ceremonies. In those days the majority of people were not at work on Sundays and free to attend.

Edit: I have just googled wikipedia who say that Beginning in 1939 the two-minute silence was moved to the Sunday nearest 11 November in order not to interfere with wartime production should 11 November fall on a weekday

The Whitehall Cenotaph ceremony is broadcast live and until I married an ex serviceman I always watched it. The whole day used to have a sombre atmosphere. You could join in your local cenotaph service if you wanted to, or walk down later and look at the wreaths.

Where I used to work in the UK had a 2minute silence on the 11th. I haven't seen that here yet. Just the banks closed.

predictable that some group of tossers would attempt to self publicize on the back of an event such as this. i wouldn't worry, its not like they will be signed up any time soon, my dog makes nicer sounds than this when vomiting.

My BIL is, as I type, at Rideau Hall, getting medalled by the GG. He is running out of chest-space. He'll have to quit the army and go back to being a Sunday-School teacher, youth organiser and part-time sociopath.

Um, they posted their video on June 29th. If anything, it's the other way round. And you must admit, "Voluptuously Minced" is a pretty good name for an album.

It may come as a surprise to you to learn this, you pathetic little prat, that it is quite normal for people to have an interest in developing children without wanting to sodomise them.

can i just add to this, that my girls U10 footy team i coach, of which my daughter is star defender in shape of her old man, is still undefeated in the league and won her last match on sunday 8-3, YES 8. this is the only chance i have had to wallow in my glory on here so i'm taking it even if it may be slightly inappropriate.

...Definitely one to watch for the future on the sports front - how's she on 20th century world history? Just to bring this thread back to it's humble origins. (and with any luck lay it to rest)

...you may want to take a look at what this thread was actually about before you start questioning some peoples morals.
