Las Vegas shooting

Re: Las Vegas shooting
Ah and there's the thing. all about how you define what "terroist" / "terrorism" is. Ok, so perhaps "domestic terrorist(ism)" would be the phrase to use, but I would consider what this chap did to be terrorism, as in, it was an act to cause terror, which it certainly did.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
One thing I'm surprised about is that no-one has mentioned Terrorist / Terrorism. One presumes because the shooter is white male, so, you know, he ain't of color, and / or doesn't have a "foreign" sounding name, so cannot possibly be one of those nasty terrorist types.
Will this shooting change a thing in regards to gun control? I very much doubt it. Constitutional right to bear arms, blah, blah, blah.
I am curious to know what the motive for this attack was. Obviously premeditated. Perhaps his "companion" can shed some light on it all.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
These are apparently the 3 criteria that must be met for the FBI to consider an attack to be domestic terrorism.
“Domestic terrorism” means activities with the following three characteristics:
Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping;
and
Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.
What the public sees as terrorism and how the law defines it may not be the same.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
If you were living in the USA and had a gun, would you voluntarily hand it in?
The government won't change a thing. Guns will only be controlled if the people say they've had enough of unnecessary death and grief.
It's going to take a group of high profile people to publicly drop their guns in a smelter to change this. If they get so worked up about somebody 'taking a knee' think how much coverage that would get... "Here's my gun, I don't want it any more."

I pondered the same question and via Google I found this:
https://www.google.ca/amp/www.indepe...831.html%3Famp
The results: “right-wing extremists were behind nearly twice as many incidents” as terror acts associated with those identified as “Islamist domestic terrorism”.

If the killing of 20 children at Sandy Hook failed to change gun control, nothing will.

Another form of extremism that seems to be on the increase again now. Nothing to do with Trump of course.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
Is being converted to "radical Islam" worse than being raised in, or converted to, Christian extremism? Forget about the actual acts of violence, think more about intellectual intolerance, e.g. if your "white jihadis" had been recruited by somebody like the KKK instead?

They are not my "white jihadis" im just saying they exist.
In my opinion there is no place for any form of extremism or intolerance, of any kind. I suppose it comes down to the mental stability, reasoning capabilities and the education of an individual person, and whether they allow themselves to become brainwashed and start to actually believe in an extremist ideology and go on to act on an extreme organisations behalf.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
But every time somebody like you refers to something like
it makes it so much harder for very ordinary, scared, humble, non-violent refugees who've seen American and British-made missiles reduce their home towns to rubble.
Did you imagine that every German bombed out of their home in WW2 was a Nazi?

I think your translating a comment I made into something a lot more than what it is, I just stated a fact from what I saw in a documentary, extremism exists in all forms and for diffrerent causes.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
I thought so too. Plenty of extremism and sanctioning of extremism in the Islam world. I don't believe all the religion of peace BS. Having said that, what is this discussion doing on the Las Vegas thread. The shooter seems to be an American accountant.
