She's not that subtle, now I think about it. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...n/772fbad1.jpg Thankyou, thankyouverymuch. We loved Vegas and surrounding area, and that's without gambling. Its a great people watching place. Hot as hell in July though! Sealion is done now I think, so you at least dodged that bullet. We saw one of the cirque shows...excellent stuff, all be it as pretentious as it gets. |

If you haven't been it's worth trying to get out to the south rim of the Grand Canyon National Park - it's much more impressive than the stuff near Vegas. It's about a 4-hour schlep each way and it'll likely be too hot in September, but it really is incredible.

I can't you tube from here; is it Sealion doing AC/DC? pace Steve_P, I also heard she'd finished her LV show now. A great loss to Nevada, I'm sure... |

Okay I couldn't even watch more that 5 seconds. I actually walked up the aisle to "You Shook Me All Night Long" (no I'm not kidding) if I watch that clip the memory of my romantic wedding day will be ruined forever:rofl: |
Re: Las Vegas; worth the bother?
I've been to Vegas. :) It's definitely worth seeing, just because of the wow factor really... Though I wouldn't want to stay for any length of time. :P
Walking the strip is your basic entertainment, there were loads of things going on and all kinds of attractions outside the big casinos (volcanos erupting, pirate ships sinking, etc...) as well as the gambling opportunities for those who like that kind of thing. Also entertaining is watching the motor vehicles going by, as they appear to have stretched anything and everything...not just limos. :P However it really kinda stank of sewerage (amongst other things) along the whole area, so be prepared for that. :X However a good point is that I felt pretty safe though walking along the strip with my friend, with us both being young adult females. :P There were plenty of police out and people were generally well behaved. I felt safer than I would walking around my street at night here in the UK. Going up the Stratosphere gives you a good view of everything, but I'd recommend doing it at night. It's quieter then and because of all the lights you get a really impressive view. When I went the rides there were closed due to high winds, so I can't really comment on those. I also had a trip out to the Hoover Dam, which is worth seeing just for the amazing scale of it. There's various exhibits to look at in the area, but if I recall correctly it was quite expensive to actually go inside the Dam itself. I saw a couple of shows while I was out there, both were extremely good. :D One was Weird Al performing live and the other was a circus. There seemed to be loads of shows of all different varieties going on though (comedies, magic acts, plays, etc...) so finding something to suit isn't difficult. If I recall correctly, I was over there in July time. It did get very hot and I was careful with sun block and stuff... But it's a very dry heat, which is much easier to tolerate than high humidity. So it doesn't seem to be quite as bad as it really is. :) I did find it was really bright though, so sunglasses were a must. Anyway, a bit of a random jumble of information as I remembered it... It was a few years ago that I went! Hopefully it's useful though. :) |
Re: Las Vegas; worth the bother?
4 days after our wedding, OH's best man got married in Vegas (and OH was his best man), so Vegas wound up being our honeymoon.
Ehh....have no desire to go there again. We don't gamble. We don't smoke, we don't drink...because we had to stay "local" (i.e. the Strip) for wedding stuff we couldn't take off to the Grand Canyon or anywhere. There's only so much walking up the Strip you can do, ducking into hotels to look around and cooling off. We hated the pollution on the strip from traffic (much worse at night - my asthma flared up and I could barely breathe), and all of the people handing out cards for strippers/escorts every 2 feet. Yes, the hotels are very interesting, but 8 days was FAR too long to spend there (the novelty wears off fast). The only shows we went to (due to budget - we'd just had our big wedding, and Vegas was a kind of unexpected surprise) were Penn and Teller and the Knights of the Round Table (both enjoyable). |

You could try to sell them to Hello Magazine I hear $1million is the going rate for royalty such as yourself. But Queen might put a stop to that. Whatever have a great time :D |
