Japanese Cow
I was just glancing at the Superstore (Loblaws) flyer when I noticed some steak (tenderloin) for an eye watering $24.99 a lb.
Then, right next to it and causing my jaw to drop in shock was something at $59.99 a lb.
Wagyu striploin. Never heard of Wagyu so I looked it up.
Japanese Cow. At that price it should be Holy Cow!
60 bucks a pound.

Cows that are given beer to drink and get a daily massage. Happy meat.
In the radio this morning they had an article about Urban Fare - a downtown Vancouver supermarket chain that exists to separate fools from their money. They are selling square melons for $200 each and water (yes, plain spring water) between $21.99 and $2,800.00 (yes, the decimal point is in the right place) a bottle.

Yet you still have to go to a dump of a place, served by stinky and miserable fat people to buy a bottle of wine. Nice to know the society has its priorities in order.

Square watermelons have been in Japan for years. They are weird about fruit there.

Yes Bristol I have had had Wagu beef, in fact the Superstore sells Wagu beef beefburgers, which cost more, but are very nice, I think.

But, should I see them at Superstore, accidental like, maybe a pack might fall into my mother in law's cart and she can pay.

Yes, I saw them in the same flyer. $10 for four. Frozen too. I'm happy with the ones from the meat store a few minutes away. Lean, seasoned and $3 for four.

Re: Japanese Cow
Google informs that wagyu is a breed of cattle and some are now raised in Alberta. That may explain price differential, failing that, Jings' explanation.
