Hmm didn't know that. I assumed separate as nav Canada employs the FSS people who provide the weather briefings. A lot of their info comes from the weather reporting stations (AWOS and the like)

A rose by any other name - 40 years ago all the weather stations scattered across the north were run by the DOT. Us HBC clerks used to party at their house on our little island and play Risk every Friday night.. They had a gas bbq in the basement under a range hood and we grilled steaks in the middle of winter. First propane bbq I ever saw.
Currently -28 in Regina falling to -33 overnight (knew it was too good to last :-)).

Currently 2 and raining in Squamish if you believe the weather - jsmith, a 30% chance of precipitation means it probably isn't going to snow. 70% means it may well snow, but 30% means the rain you're getting now wasn't even likely. Think of the weather on the left coast as a beautiful woman, sometimes she smiles, sometimes she frowns, but she's still beautiful and enticing. The weather in Regina is more like the ex who you couldn't get a restraining order against who's prone to violent mood swings and you have to keep her away from the kitchen where the knives are. You still love her, but she requires your full attention so she doesn't kill or maim you.

lol....Clearly whomever posted the weather report isn't here...lol

I've been at work since 11pm, well still at work, and it hasn't so much as rained, dry as can be out there as of 523am, and no rain yet......

Apparently it has snowed in random area's for the lower mainland, one facebook friend in Chilliwack posted it was snowing, and another in Chilliwack posted that on their side of town is was raining, same city, 2 different weather events...lol

Edit- Just went outside at 533am, and there are a few flakes falling from the sky, nothing on the ground, but stuck to some cars, just enough to make it look like someone sprinkled salt on the cars...

Now its snowing pretty hard, and sticking to the ground. I had to go and toss some ice/snow melting stuff (not salt) onto the entry way of the building.

Reminder: This is Canada and shockingly enough, it's meant to be snowing and cold this time of the year. However, Wiarton Will did see his shadow

True true, but around these parts snow can be a novelty many winters. Only 2nd time snow has fallen from the sky this year.

Still snowing, bit surprised about it, 4 straight hours now. Too bad they don't plow anything around here...lol

Well yes. But, another thing, Nav Canada isn't actually a government source at all. It's a privately run not-for-profit, spun off from Transport Canada in (I think) 1996 which gets its revenue by charging aviation companies for providing air traffic management services through their NAVCANatm software package, all based on sources from taxpayer paid data from EC-MSC in Canada, NWS in the US and the ECMWF in Europe and presumably others.

Automatic Weather Observation Stations are a very minor input. You're welcome to try doing a flight plan anywhere without taxpayer input.

In its proper place.

I'm much happier as I was out this morning for a walk and it is much warmer today. Six Celsius already and climbing. Hopefully we'll hit ten for the rest of the week.

-28 here this morning. I expect a heatwave is coming soon, something that feels like a heatwave anyway.
