There once was a lad from Quebec,
Who was buried in snow to his neck.
When asked, "Are you frizz?"
He replied, "Yes I is,
But we don't call this cold in Quebec."

-27 in Regina; bracing, that's what it is.

"They" can naff off. I was talking to a bloke on the walk home last night, who apparently came from a long line of meteorologists and for a mere five dollars told me that according to his ancestors it was going to warm up considerably and there would be no snow. A bargain.

Environment Canada for Vancouver agrees, well they changed the forecast to rain or snow, so they are covering both angles just in case...

I took a cab in today so I never really noticed the weather this morning and only now have I stepped outside to pop in Starbucks as our coffee maker is bust. I'm now starting to have doubts about that bloke last night credentials. Come to think about it, his distinct oder initially led me to think he might be some sort of commercial fisherman. Although his little dance swayed my initial scepticism, but naff its cold outside.

You should be able to trust a drunken commercial fisherman to predict the next day's weather.

I hope Harper doesn't read this thread. He'll hire the drunken fisherman and disband Environment Canada.

Privatizing weather stations could happen and we'd be none the wiser, but I'd hate to have the bevy of lovely and personable women employed as television meteorologists/weather experts replaced by Gus and Sean from Cornerbrook just so Stevo can scrape up a few more votes in the Maritimes!
Oh yeah, -30 in Regina, but it's going to be sunny and -21 later. Wheeee!

Environment Canada isn't the only source of weather info from the government. For short term stuff I use Nav Canada's info. I've always been mildly surprised that no one ever seems to check that you are actually a pilot when you call them. Only once in about two years have I actually been asked for my license number, usually they ask for the plane reg and you could pick any really.

I believe the US has contracted theirs out to Lockheed-Martin. I remember when Ben phoned for a US weather briefing he was mildly surprised to be greeted with "Lockheed Martin Flight Services". I believe he commented " I wanted the weather not to purchase a missile!"

Environment Canada says -8 right now, but still can't make their mind up if its going to snow or not in the coming days, they still have snow as a possibility, but also have rain as a possibility, so who knows.

Looks to be a warming trend overnight, the low overnight tonight is only supposed to be -3 and a high tomorrow of +4.

I worked at Lockheed Martin in King of Prussia. It was the most foul mouthed workplace I've been in, like a constant Derek and Clive sketch. I suppose therefore that the weather forecast is that it will rain ****ing *****, oh ****, yes.

Nav Canada gets its meteorological data and forecasts from Environment Canada though, specifically the EC Meteorological Services Centre branch in Dorval, QC.

That's where the GEMM (Global Environment Multiscale Model) was developed and where the supercomputers are located.

Nav Canada just packages the model output in a form useful for Air Traffic Management.
