Well it`s just taken me nearly 40 minutes to clear a path down my driveway to the sidewalk. The snow had drifted to mid thigh in places, top couple of feet were powder but then a layer of ice and then the next 18" qnd more was heavy wet snow. It was one of those 3 stage cut affairs, sigh.

I got to the sidewalk (just) only to discover that my neighbour had kindly cleared his double driveway and sidewalk, my elderly neighbours double driveway and sidewalk - and left mine. I could have cried. Over 2' deep of snow and ice and 60' of it to clear.. there is no way I can do it tonight, I can barely move.

My son is away until Thursday night; the kids that normally come round and ask to be paid to clear the sidewalk are nowhere in sight and City by-laws state it must be cleared within 24 hours of the snow storm stopping.

@ bats - Did you know you can claim tax relief for the gluten free foods you need?

Very impressive. I rarely make 30 minutes in one go before my fingers get too cold. I often wonder if pricking fingers (blood/sugar test) a few times a day makes them more susceptible to the cold. But it gives me an excuse too get back in.

That much snow in one go, though, I either go out and do it a few inches at a time - even if still snowing and even if some blows back - or just give up, wait and phone the guy who plows it up the drive. It's affordable that way and heart attack free.

It has been a bitch of a winter in the GTA so far, hasn't it.

Still, it's my second last here so I'll suck it up while contemplating my return to civilization in 2015.

Count yourself lucky. The snow banks either side of my driveway are now too high for me to sling any more snow over them. I have to move it shovel by shovel to a different part of the yard. It took me three hours on Sunday.

If I had to clear my driveway I would have been out there for double that.

Good call. The Mrs is a happy bunny this morning.

Guess we've had a good 25cm judging by the snow on the BBQ. Nice light fluffy stuff though. Going to be a bitch when the wind gets up and it starts blowing around.

The 10:30 announcement for the schools just changed to "closed for the remainder of the day"

Kind of hard for me to justify a snow day when its not snowing and the sun is splitting the pavements

So pleased I left Toronto last week for Florida.

It will be in the 80s again today.

Have you checked kijiji or similar site to see if any young capitalists are advertising snow shovelling in your area? When I was in scouts we shovelled driveways to make money to buy our beat up VW micro-bus to go camping in. Of all the various fundraisers we did to get that van, the shovelling was the worst, hands down.
-25 and blowing snow in Regina but I stopped caring long ago. Also, I question the validity of groundhog science since the results tend to vary widely.

Found this chart of average snowfall in Toronto in the past 25 years - http://toronto.weatherstats.ca/charts/snow-25years.html. INteresting to see how much more we have this year as compared to other years... though I think this is for calendar years as opposed to winter seasons (so grouping January 2013 snowfall with December 2013 snowfall).
