Instant Coffee

Read a BBC article about Brits and instant coffee... there were some eye-opening statistics - 77% of Brits use instant coffee at home, compared to only 1% of Italians, 4% of French and 7% of Americans. To be honest, the 7% of Americans surprised me, I didn't think it'd be that high. Perhaps it's all the Brits.

I don't often drink coffee, I prefer a nice cup of Earl Grey, but when I do drink coffee, I don't mind instant. Also, a jar of instant has got to be a lot more eco-friendly than all these new-fangled disposable plastic pod things.

Has moving to Canada changed your coffee habits from instant to fresh, or is there still a sneaky jar of Nescafe in your cupboard?

I do both. If I am in a hurry or will be going out then I make a cup of instant (but I wish I could get Kenco here), if I will be home or I am not in a rush then I make a pot (with a filter/drip system). I used to use a cafetiere but it got broken in the move over.

I dislike pod coffee.

:)

Er, hesitantly. Instant coffee in Canada doesn't taste the same.

In England I used to use a cafetiere except at work where it was instant. Here it was cafetiere or single filter. Now I have a Tassimo, at work a Keurig. I would love a Nespresso though, beautiful coffee.

I rarely drink coffee but when I do, I use a coffee maker and never use instant.

Takes no longer to make a travel mug of coffee, 2 minutes or so, about the same time it would take the kettle to boil water for instant.

I never understood why coffee bags never caught on more, while not great, they are a world better than instant.

Anyway the mentioned research of coffee type and personality seems about right.
Instant drinkers are more relaxed and laid back, seems right when you compare the Brit 77% to the Italian 1%

I always make sure our UK visitors bring me Kenco.

Weekends we use the pot (its a waste if I am in ony own - cant be bothered to make a pot for a couple of cups)

Just bought a tassimo - love it but the price is a bit indulgent so maybe have one of those every couple of days.

In England I just used instant. Coffee is better here I think.

I don't drink coffee, so we have two sizes of caffetiere at home for visitors. Canadian visitors think that's posh/fussy, so I don't know what they have at home.

We have a Keurig at work, and I am horrified by the plastic pod waste our dept of 30 gets through, and the boxes it all comes in. Disgraceful.

I think you can recycle Keurig pods?

You can, but many times companies don't have a recycling program in place for such items.

We go through many jars of Nescafé every month, usually buy 4-6 jars when it is on offer. Normal price is $8 sale price can be as low as $3:49

I use Nespresso most of the time but I now have one of those little stove top coffee cookers so I make a nice Cafe Con Leche when I need a bit of extra oompfh.

Currently contemplating a new coffee machine for our business. $20k. that feels a little spendy, but there's good profit in selling coffee.

I agree.

You do not get anywhere near the range or qualities of instant coffees in Canada so like everything else you are forced to go the expensive route.

I have one coffee a a day and it is from Second Cup.
